A year after the impressive debut of Empress of the Deep: The Darkest Secret, the sequel, Empress of the Deep 2: Song of the Blue Whale, is finally here. It's deceit, betrayal and madness all over again, wrapped up in an engaging and highly polished game that fans of the first will find immediately familiar and well worth the wait.

Aspectus: Rinascimento Chronicles, from its description alone, seems like it would be an incredibly interesting tale through the Netherlands in the year 1520. There is an evil group of demons known as the Destroyers of Art that has come to destroy the Aspectus, Mr. Bruesen?s ?perfect painting,? and you?ll need to help him finish his masterpiece before the demons have their way. However, in its actual execution, Aspectus is nothing more than a sloppy mess.

Back to the Future Episode 3: Citizen Brown is a tough title to review. Taken on its own, it?s a shallow, almost meaningless game. In the greater fabric of the quintilogy, it serves its purpose as a bridge, the dip of the story arc. Not a great place to be, but it?s obviously setting up exciting things to come.

I keep seeing these notices and releases for games on sale. A note here, a release there. What the hell is going on? It turns out that Microsoft is having a couple of sales promotions. The ongoing one is called Extreme Shopping Week, and tomorrow, April Fools' Day, is the "Extreme Shopping 1-Day Sale." Both are good.
We were losing track of what was on sale when, and how much it would cost. Then we remembered that our friends at CheapAssGamer have this all on lockdown. We are just going to link you to their complete list instead of serving you copypasta.
CAG's list is packed with a bunch of cheap games that are worth grabbing. A lot of the stuff is 50 percent off, but there's a few that are really cheap. Unbound Saga is 80 percent off. On April Fools', X-men, the 1992 arcade game, is 75 percent off. Nice. Welcome to die!
Head to CheapAssGamer for the full list.

We've got something special planned for tomorrow's beginning-of-April shenanigans, but we are certainly not alone in our journey to entertain.
The website for Runes of Magic has been updated to inform us about the game's new 3.0.DTOID content patch. Beginning on April 1, every single last player, NPC, mount, and more in-game will be changed to look like Mr. Destructoid.
"This decision was made in an effort to reduce the overwhelming amount of customization options available to players, thus streamlining the character creation process."
Full patch notes can be seen here.

NEWS - According to Destructoid, an online pettition has appeared asking Walmart to boycott Duke Nukem Forever, and apparently it's gaining some traction among those who find gameplay modes that see you with smacking a woman on her behind offensive.
Basically, non-gamers are upset that a videogame might be sexist. I know, what a bore, right? When don't non-gamers get upset over something even the slightest bit not politically correct appearing in a videogame? (um, the would be "never" by the way)
But (sorry, no pun intended) it get's weirder because the game mode in question sounds kinda bat**** insane to me. In what is being called "capture the babe" mode, the goal is to carry a woman from one base to the other, smacking her on her backside if she get to hysterical. It's like capture the flag, only with more domestic violence.
Look, I get that Duke Nukem Forever is sexist and over-the-top completely intentionally, and I'm not agreeing with the petitioners by any stretch of the imagination, but the game-mode in question just sounds stupid to me and designed to invite the kind of attention its getting - all while our rights to even purchase games like DNF are under review by the Supreme Court.
It's all a bit like having a gasoline fight during a forest fire, if you ask me.

NEWS - Here's the latest bit of video game car porn from DiRT 3 which shows off the Group B Rally cars that are in the game. The addition of the cars is significant as the Group B cars were banned from the sport in 1996 as their combination of light weight and abundant power caused a few too many driver fatalities for the sport to continue on with them.
This is a pretty cool example of a video game allowing players to try and play through something that is no longer a part of the sport.

NEWS - In one of the more interesting examples of gaming M&A the folks at Gamestop purchased digital distributor Impulse from Stardock. The move gives the retailer an amazingly solid foothold in the digital distribution world and clears Stardock to focus back on creating games (like Galactic Civilization 3)
In an eloquent letter to it's fanbase the folks at Stardock assure their current customers that their service will not be interrupted in the least bit and that Stardock will continue to be involved in the maintenance and growth of the service.
It's going to be interesting to see what Gamestop does with the service as it's not hard to imagine a lot of exclusives and DLC offers being only available through Impulse. Hell I would gather that we'll see the Gamestop/Game Informer discount information pushed onto the service which will help drive customers there as well.
My last thought about the move is that it proves once and for all that PC gaming isn't dead. You don't see a major retailer like Gamestop making this kind of investment unless they believe in the platform and the product.

Fun little project for you to tinker around with, 3DS owners. Up-and-coming web portal Theme Parks in 3D has a growing library of 3D images taken at various theme parks, like the Magic Kingdom.
Using your new Nintendo handheld, you can view these images -- complete with glorious depth -- by simply transferring them onto your SD card. (Full instructions on how to do this can be found at the above link.) The collection isn't too diverse yet, but more photos are on the way.
Yeah, this project is a little bit on the silly side. No one is denying that. There's nothing wrong with silly, though.
