Once again, Japan has proven that that it is racist against Japanese games, animation, people, and everything. Ni No Kuni, the collaboration between premiere animated filmmakers Studio Ghibli and Professor Layton developers Level-5, has failed to outsell Modern Warfare 3 in their first week of release in Japan. Modern Warfare 3 sold over 180,000 units on the PS3, and over 30,000 units on the Xbox 360, where the PS3 exclusive Ni No Kuni pulled in just 67,000.

Some would say that this a sign that Japan is obsessed with competitive FPSs and gritty, realistic graphics. Others may take this to mean that Studio Ghibli is no longer popular in Japan, and that the countries long held love of American action films has finally leaked into its gaming culture. I've even heard one guy say that heavily marketed, well made videogames sell very well sometimes, despite what type of game they are and where they are sold. Weird, right? I'm thinking that the guy was probably smoking refer cigarettes when he said that.

As for me, I will sit back and relax, knowing with 100% certainty that this data proves that everyone in Japan hates everything that isn't American, and/or about guys shooting other guys. Why else would they hire infamous shooter guy Sylvester Stallone to do the universal hand gesture for fellatio in a soup commercial about directing movie where people get their legs cut off?

There was a long time when no one knew who the composer for the critically acclaimed Bit.Trip series was. That pained me. I desperately wanted to know who the man or woman was who deftly fused dubstep with classical piano, chip tune, and multiple other styles of music to create one of my favorite game soundtracks ever. When I finally found out that the man behind the music was Matt Harwood, and that he had worked on the symphonic soundtrack for Homefront, as well as the indie classic Alien Hominid, I was pretty freaked out. Things only got more fun from there.

In this interview, Mr. Harwood lays out how a successful game composer and sound designer should approach their craft, while revealing secrets to creating the music for the award winning Bit.Trip titles, the differences and similarities between scoring a rhythm action game and a cinematic FPS, what Guitar Hero and Call of Duty have in in common, and much more.

Here's a much more believable rumor for you on a sweet Sunday afternoon. It looks like Lego, DC comics, and Travelers Tales will be teaming up for a new Lego Batman game. This one will feature Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Lex Luthor, and a host of other DC comics heroes and villains.

The game is rumored to be released along side next year's Dark Knight Rises film and a new series of DC Super Heroes Lego sets.

I really enjoyed the first Lego Batman title, but after completing it, I was in no way hungry to throw down another $50 for more Bat-brick action. Throwing Superman and other DC icons might be enough to change my mind though. How about you? You up for some abstracted, cute and breakable DC super hero actio n next year?

So here's the scoop. There is a free dating sim for PC called Hatoful Boyfriend. You play as a school girl who dates pigeons... I think.

I haven't been able to get the game running on my PC yet, so I can't be sure, but here is what tipster hipster and Katamari t-shirt designer Linzb0t has to say about the game"...basically you are a human lady attending an all bird academy. There are a variety of birds there you can woo, including your best friend; a rock dove, your math teacher; a quail, the stuck up class representative, a fan tailed pigeon etc. It's your basic dating sim. You go to school every day and can choose to attend music class, math class, gym and the library and at these places you'll find specific birds that you can develop a relationship with. Also when you first meet each birds, they show up with a cliche sexy anime dude splash screen. It's really silly."

If you want to try the game out, you can get it and the English patch here. Linzb0t also told me about a game where you play as a school girl who spends a lot of time with an Alpaca that is also a school girl (video embedded below). If anyone can explain what's going on there, I'd greatly appreciate it.

The rumors about a Smash Bros.-style 4-player fighting game featuring Sony mascots have been floating around since at least 2008. I've never taken any of them seriously. Still, when some particularly thought provoking bulletpoints on this phantom project pop up, I think it's worth a post.

So here it is, straight from the Dtoid forums, some tidbits on what could be Sony's first foray into all-star fighting crossovers. The story goes that someone working on the game decided to risk their current employment and future career by posting some pics and info on this unannounced project on Twitter, and then their Twitter account closed. The pics feature some of the game's backgrounds and character models, including Sweet Tooth, and some woman with boobs. There was also some info on the game's preliminary roster, which includes Parappa the Rapper, Kratos, Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake, Sweet Tooth, Colonel Mael Radec, and a Fat Princess.

I hope this is real, but... yeah. It's really hard to believe that Sony is going to take one of their abandoned, cute and cartoony characters from the PS1/PS2 days like Parappa the Rapper and throw him in with one of their current "realistic" headliners like Nathan Drake. It's also seems likely that the source of all this info was a plant. Is anyone really stupid enough to steal behind the scenes info on an unannounced game like this and expect to not be blacklisted from the industry for good? I guess time will tell.

If this game is legit, I hope they get Danny Trejo in there. His face is LANDSCAPE.

Nobody has pointed out yet that the "voices" heard here in the comments are being made by the minority of gamers. There are fewer and fewer people looking to purchase a dedicated portable gaming device because the iPhone is so much more convenient. It's more convenient on price and the availability of software and games. Sony & Nintendo simply cannot compete with Apple in those regards. The gaming industry has it's head on backwards...$40 games for portable systems?! Are they crazy?! No wonder .99 cent games have taken off so well. Nobody wants a $40 title when they have zero idea if it will be good or not. You people can argue about it all you want...the iPhone, iPad and Android phones are going to squash portable gaming devices like the little insignificant bugs that they are...and there is absolutely nothing any of you can do about it. Sony & Nintendo's next step will be to start releasing games for the iPhone and Android app stores. I don't even need to argue about it because I am 100% right.
