According Gamepro (via Only The Games) players could be jumping into Treyarch’s Call of Duty: World at War as early as this November. This possible date puts a nail in the tentative “autumn” date that the game has been slated for.
While it’s only a rumor, my excitement over destroying the Pacific theatre with a flamethrower in November simply cannot be contained. Space Cat told me that November 11th looks like a really good day to release World at War considering that it’s Veteran’s Day, which means only 75 more days to go before maximum fire satisfaction can be reached. If only Space Cat would let me borrow its time machine.
The consensus is that World War II games are becoming stagnant and boring. Is November too early for you guys to return to a world of Nazis and grenade traps?

I know. Anything Hideo Kojima ever says publicly gets over-exposed and over-analysed, all to satisfy the insatiable hunger of raving-mad Metal Gear fanboys. You're probably getting sick of reading about the guy. But you know what? This is genuinely interesting, so it's going up. When asked by Eurogamer what he thought about the recent industry trend in moving away from epic, big-budget, "hardcore" games, Kojima responds:
I still think that there are gamers who love these epic games or hardcore games...Now, as long as these gamers exist I feel a responsibility that someone has to do it, to create these games, so I'm not really worried. Besides if I, or someone else, keep bringing out these epic games, it might change the flow of the industry; people might realise that these are really fun games. And time ever changes, and the flow or demand will change, but if you just look at the current trend, and you see it shrinking and you just stop, it will just become zero, so I don't think that is a wise decision to make.
There's a huge user difference. I could back this up with GTA IV, which is a smash hit, and Call of Duty 4 was a smash hit and this season, Gears of War 2 will also probably be a smash hit, so that is proof that there are still gamers out there waiting for these epic games, and I think that will continue. I'm not saying casual gaming is bad, I think that casual games will continue as well as a trend, which is also good. But I think these will coexist.
Exactly!

The Penny Arcade Expo is nearly upon us! While we're frantically packing our bags and getting our chemical peels to look our best, Hudson has announced their PAX game line-up! Surprise -- it's all Wii games!
The publisher will be publicly revealing Bomberman Blast and Alien Crush Returns for the first time to North American gamers. Additionally, the highly-anticipated Fishing Master World Tour for the Wii will be on hand; the game has over 200 different fish to catch, guys! For some reason, Hudson will be bringing along Deca Sports which is, well ... Deca Sports. The best you can hope for on that one is that they have attractive booth babes/dudes doing demos.
Hudson will be exhibiting in booth 261 all three days of the expo. Anyone up for some Bomberman Blast? I'm really, really good at that game. And by that I mean "I get lucky sometimes."

We've been hearing about an Xbox 360 price drop for awhile now, and we've heard it so much now that we don't doubt it's coming. Poorly named electronics retailer Radio Shack dropped the news in a circular not too long ago, and now other retailers are letting the cat out of the bag.
Now Best Buy is in on the price drop game. An internal screen showing the drop has been passed to Kotaku today. It shows the September 7th catalog, where the prices are lower on all three SKUs: Arcade $199, 60GB $299, Elite $399. Apparently Kmart is in on it, too. Hell, GamePro has even reviewed the Arcade system, citing the $199 price in their headline.
I was at a local Walmart yesterday, stocking up on vaseline and whatnot. I ran by the electronics section and saw a Microsoft rep speaking to about a half a dozen sales associates. The rep was explaining the transition to new pricing, telling them to prepare for the 60GB model replacements and such. He was just starting to detail how they should know which kind of customers would want each specific SKU when they ran me off.
The dude had mad armpit stains.

Add to myYahoo!British people, hello! Apparently lots of you own Brain Age. Like a lot a lot. According to compilers Chart-Track, the game has spent 80 weeks in the UK's top ten. 80. Eighty. 8. 0. The gray matter DS title has now surpassed the original Tomb Raider's benchmark. Perhaps British folks keep losing their copies of Brain Age and keep buying replacements? Perhaps they're just crazy for brain games? Perhaps. Sales Figures [Chart Track via Eurogamer]

The last couple of times I visited Japan, it seemed like everyone had a PSP in their face. People play them on the street, listen to them on subway trains, watch them on busses... On the last trip, I wasn't even on the ground for an hour before I saw public PSP gaming. In that instance, it was a gorgeous girl playing Crisis Core. Call me.
I guess that we should be surprised that the island country has just hit the 10 million sold mark for Sony's portable. All of these units were moved between December 12, 2004 and August 24, 2008, says GamesIndustry.biz.
I'd bet that the Monster Hunter franchise sold plenty of titles, especially after seeing Japan's top five PSP games:
What do you think the US system seller would need to be? I think we just need to get the porn titles like Japan does.

This ain't no monopoly. It's a duopoly. A Screen Digest report has found that for the year's third quarter, which runs from July to September, around 75% of all games released come from two publishers. Can you guess which two? If you said Atlus and Taito, sorry, you won't be taking any prizes home with you after the show. No, it's EA and Activision, the glut prompted by EA's packed sports game release calendar, which sees 21 games - and all major sports series barring FIFA - released during the quarter. Activision, for what it's worth, could only manage 19.
