NEWS - First we had optical that Microsoft really made mainstream with their Intellimouse Explorer. Next we had laser which Logitech has really done well in implementing. Is Microsoft coming back with the next big thing? Their website shows a countdown and a message saying goodbye to laser. The mystery though might already be solved as Engdaget has a post on Blue Track mouse that uses a blue LED and a wide angle lense so that the mouse can be used on more surfaces. The picture of the mouse sports the same logo that the Microsoft website shows. I'm just curious as to why Microsoft doesn't go all blue and use Bluetooth as the wireless tech and do away with the dongle as Bluetooth seems to be pretty standard on laptops these days.Comment

Add to myYahoo!I have to admit: I'm not the biggest Rush fan on the planet, but my wife surely is. So when she was stomping around the house flipping furniture yesterday, I knew something was wrong.
It seems that Rush's Moving Pictures, scheduled as yesterday's Rock Band downloadable content, has been slightly delayed.
"Just so you know, we know that Rush's Moving Pictures isn't up yet," wrote Harmonix community manager Sean Baptiste (featured in the above video) on their official forums. "There is a technical difficulty that is being worked out. I'll alert you when it is all clear."
No word on what the "technical difficulty" is, but I'll go ahead and take responsibility for this one. This past weekend I suggested to Baptiste that the game integrate EA Sports' real-time score ticket in the vocal track of Rush's instrumental classic, "YYZ." While I don't think he actually took that back to the programming team and ran with it, I can dream, right?
We'll update you by dropping balloons from the ceiling and sending up a flare as soon as we hear more.

Add to myYahoo! After sitting down with Microsoft's state government affairs folks to talk politics and gaming, I started asking them if they've been trying to get Barack Obama into games.
Obama made a splash with gamers earlier this month when he said in an interview that the last game he played was Pong. Did Microsoft shoot a 360 straight out to him the second they read that, I asked.
No, not that anyone knows of.
What about here in Denver. Did they set up a console in his hotel to give him something to relax with.
No.
But, it turns out Microsoft did gift someone. Actually a lot of someones. A bunch of the nearly 4,500 delegates in Denver each got their own Democratic National Convention branded. The idea is that attendees will eventually be able to download speeches and political videos. The Zunes are also pre-loaded with content including, I'm told, one game.
And the RNC folks are getting one too Gizmodo discovered.

There's Tetris clones everywhere, right? Well, not on iTunes. The free clone Tris is being pulled after its creator found out that the The Tetris Company isn't digging his version.
Noah Witherspoon, the free game's creator, received a letter from Apple, who passed the word along from The Tetris Company. They told Witherspoon that he should either settle the "dispute" on his own or face legal action, according to Opposable Thumbs.
"The trouble is, I'm a college student, and not an affluent one," Witherspoon wrote on his blog, "and I simply do not have the time, energy, or resources to fight this battle right now. There's a point at which I am willing to give up and be practical, to let the world have its way with that ever-mistreated little ideal of 'principle'."
While Witherspoon is backing down, he's not giving up. He says, "when I have the time and can find a good copyright lawyer, I'll be figuring out exactly what my position is and how I can make Tris available again."
Now the only alternative is a pay version, EA Mobile's Tetris, for $9.99.

NEWS - Raid on Bungeling Bay was yesterday's game and I really had a lot of fun with it when I played it on the Commodore 64. Today's game might be a tough one to get. I was surprised at how well this was done and how much fun it was. Pretty slick game and ahead of its time.

RE: Hot and Crazy
Wow, sounds like Denver is the eye of a hurricane right now...
Here, it's imported beer night! While drink great domestic beer when you can pay more for beer from other countries!! Three choices: Victoria Bitter, Tiger, Negra Modelo. VB, I've actually never had — Luke says, "Eh, it's okay." Tiger, I think I've had before. Negra Modelo comes as a recommendation from Facebook friend Raul.
Soooooooooo......... Which one should I start with?
Oh! Today, I *finally* got a few hard copies of the arcade book I wrote from my delightful editor Cathy Layne at Kodansha International. Man, seeing the damn thing after all that hard work and actually being able to hold the finished product was indescribable, really. Still is. Maybe the best way to put it is: relief? It's actually done. Gonna launch the book's official website in early September as well as have a Japan launch party/book signing dealio in Tokyo later next month.

The top eight spots are all games for Nintendo platforms. Again. BORING. So this week, figured I'd try something different. Let's talk about the other end of the chart. The end that has literal shovelware, like "42 All-Time Classics" on the DS, propping the whole thing up. That and Imagine : Babies, which actually moved up a spot from last week, from 39 to 38. Actually, this end's just as uninteresting as the top end. Sorry.

Since being announced some time ago, things have been quiet on the Sin City videogame adaptation front. GameSpot is now reporting that development duties for the title have changed hands.
Red Mile Entertainment has confirmed that Transmission Games -- currently also working on flight combat sim Heroes Over Europe for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC -- will not longer be developing the game. While Sin City's new developer is unknown, a Red Mile rep says that the change happened "quite a long time ago," which would theoretically indicate that the project's quality is not in jeopardy.
Not much is known about the game, other than the fact that it will be powered by Unreal Engine 3.0 and that creator Frank Miller is heavily involved in its production. Sin City was originally on track to drop on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii by Holiday of 2009; no word on if the developer change-over will impact the game's release.
I'm certainly cautious about the game; I've been burned too many times by licensed properties to get our hopes up before I've even seen a single screenshot. Still, Miller's participation in the game sounds promising. But hey, if this doesn't work out, there's always Sega's Madworld, right?
