EA continues to display an amazing amount of dedication to the story aspects of their upcoming sci-fi horror shooter Dead Space with the launch of No Known Survivors, a website that will feature two tragic stories from the Dead Space universe, told through the use of 3D animations, voice talent, original video and interactive elements. The website launches with nine body parts floating through space, each of which will morph into the shape of a mutated necromorph body part before becoming clickable, with one a new chunk of content activated every Monday, starting this week.
The first of the two stories, "Misplaced Affection", is the story of an organ replacement tech who falls for a female officer. The second, "13", features the story of a sleeper agent faced with tough decisions. It's all terrible atmospheric, doing an excellent job of heightening my excitement for the game. Head over to NoKnownSurvivors.com right now to check it out.

Despite beliefs by some old school Nintendo fans that the Big N has abandoned them, the company is adamant that it has never forgotten the "core" gamers, and never will. Nintendo has promised that some of its more popular franchises are currently in development, but that it could be some time before we see any of them.
"We have never neglected our core gamers," stated a Nintendo rep. "We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises, but we need approximately two to three years to complete these games."
So far, apart from the already mentioned Pikmin 3, we don't know what these "core" titles will be. A safe bet would be a Zelda of some kind, and of course the rumors of some sort of Kid Icarus revival continue unabated. Whatever they are, these games are not expected to arrive until at least late 2009, so the hardcore set have quite a wait.
Care for some magazines to flick through in the meantime?

Canada may have a lot of real estate, but most of the people are gathered down in the Southern section of the country for fear of the vicious ice spiders that rampage through the Northern tundra. It's most likely because of this that such a large country is only now surpassing the one million Wii sold milestone, with just under 1,060,000 units sold as of the end of July, according to the NPD. Thus continues Nintendo's domination of the Great White North (and the world as a whole), with the PlayStation 3 selling 520,000 and Xbox 360 sales totaling 870,000 units despite a year head start on the competition.
There's still time to catch up, however. The NPD also reports that Canadian video game sales are 54% to nearly $920 million over last year, only a fraction of which can be directly attributed to the ice spiders' strange fascination with Wii Sports Tennis.

Some of you probably read the title of this post and are asking, “Second? There was a first?” Well, if you missed it, 2K Sports is putting together four teaser trailers for NBA 2K9, and the first one (featuring 2008 NBA Finals MVP Paul Pierce) was released two weeks ago. This next one showcases the talents of Philadelphia 76ers small forward Andre Iguodala, who very recently signed a six-year contract with the team for a reported $80 million.
This game looks better and better each time I see it -- check out the visible mesh in Iguodala’s jersey at the 14-second mark! And just look at that wonderfully three-dimensional crowd! In this video, Iguodala tosses a “swing pass, out right, to [point guard Andre] Miller,” and then drives toward the basket to receive an alley-oop pass that gets tipped by a defender before being slammed in for two points. The trailer ends once again with the tagline that looks to be a theme for the game: “Make This Season Matter.”
If you’re frothing with excitement for NBA 2K9, you might want to drink some fluids to replenish your saliva, since you’ll be drooling for a while -- the game won’t be out until October 7th (PS3, 360, PS2).
[Update: I'm an idiot and forgot to include the four screenshots that 2K Sports sent over. Check 'em out below!]

Add to myYahoo!Things have been busy around here these days but luckily Dan and Jimmy seem to care more about you guys than the rest of us. They care so much that they broke their normal Tuesday night routine of web cam chat dance-offs to sit down and record a new episode. This week we catch up [...]

Add to myYahoo!More specifically, Harmonix's Dan Teasdale has challenged me to an arm wrestling match, directly following their "History of Harmonix: THE ROCKENING" panel at the Penny Arcade Expo this Saturday.
From his blog on RockBand.com:
I challenge Kotaku's Mike Fahey, Wired's Chris Kohler, and Destructoid's Nick Chester to an arm wrestle. Mike is allowed to substitute for Cresente if he can't make it, but in that case I'm allowed to take my elbow off the table and Brian isn't - Crescente looks like he works out, so I need any advantage I can get.
Oh, it's so on, Dan. But come on -- couldn't you have challenged me personally? Why did I have to find out about it via Kotaku? That's low. Consider your arm broken, Teasdale. Consider it broken.
Dan also issues challenges to other developers, including the teams behind Guitar Hero World Tour and Singstar; he's feareless, but maybe has bitten off more than he can chew. I hear Cliff Bleszinski can lift cars. He also rambles on and on about features of some game called Rock Band 2, which I heard is like, totally lousy.
Now excuse me, I have little girls to push around and weights to lift.
[Thanks, Guagloves!]
