Sony didn't tell PSN users that personal information had been compromised right away because it took some time to figure out what happened.

NEWS - Patrick Seybold has posted another update this evening to the PlayStation Blog with some clarification of the timing of the when and what involving the intrusion and subsequent data exposure that Sony suffered. In what amounts to a bit of damage control from the heat that Sony has been taking, Seybold pointed out that it does take some time from the point a breach is identified until it is found out exactly what may have been compromised. Seybold’s statement including a link to a FAQ, which is more of a point-by-point of the letter that was e-mailed to affected subscribers this evening. There is little new info, although Sony did make mention that it will review options about offering compensation to those that had a subscription fee or content impacted. Here is the update form Seybold with the link to the FAQ :
I wanted to take this opportunity to clarify a point and answer one of the most frequently asked questions today.
There’s a difference in timing between when we identified there was an intrusion and when we learned of consumers’ data being compromised. We learned there was an intrusion April 19th and subsequently shut the services down. We then brought in outside experts to help us learn how the intrusion occurred and to conduct an investigation to determine the nature and scope of the incident. It was necessary to conduct several days of forensic analysis, and it took our experts until yesterday to understand the scope of the breach. We then shared that information with our consumers and announced it publicly this afternoon.
For those who were looking there’s also an FAQ with some more frequently asked questions
Thank you for your continued patience and support.

Nadeo and Ubisoft have pushed out some more details on TrackMania 2 Canyon. Namely, the closed beta for the sequel is going to start in July, with ManiaPlanet -- a connected system for PC which contains tools that allow for user-made "game creation and participation" -- also gearing up around then.
So, what exactly is ManiaPlanet? Think along the lines of features you saw in TrackMania -- a map editor, an explorer for created content, ranking, and matchmaking. TrackMania 2 Canyon will be the first title to release on this system, followed by its shooter and RPG counterparts ShootMania and QuestMania, respectively.
Essentially, it's all about the community. While we don't have any substantial information on ShootMania or QuestMania yet, the former is getting a closed beta "in the coming months." Similarly, the latter will have a beta "at a later date." Both of these seem strangely compelling to me. Also, TrackMania 2 looks ridiculous.

... But remember when I said that PS3 Firmware was utterly useless and Sony shouldn't update it a billion times a year because it doesn't benefit us, but then some people were like, "Sony is doing this for security and to keep us safe, and make the network a better place"? You remember that?
As I now wonder how much of my personal information is known to hackers, I have only this to add ...

In a way, this post is shameless because the game I'm plugging has been made by an acquaintance of mine. In another, more important way, people are always complaining that we don't cover enough Android games, so you can just shut up.
Beetlenaut is a cool little game in which you control a giant mechanized stag beetle and eat people. You have to initiate quick maneuvers in order to avoid the guided missiles sent by attack plans, and you can gain bonus points for specific carnage, as well as acquire upgrades. It's quite fun!
You can play a free lite version of the game on the official website. Check it out, because small mobile devs need the love!
