The DTOID Show is LIVE from PAX right NOW

The DTOID Show is LIVE from PAX right NOW screenshot

Hey guys! Heads up! We're in Seattle for PAX right now, sweaty and exhausted. In just a few moments, we'll be streaming LIVE, going over some of the... things... that we're doing. Just waiting for Tara to finish her pizza. Good lord woman, eat faster.

Hopefully, Hamza and some other editors are going to make special appearances. Spoiler alert: Skyrim has gay marriage and vampires, so I'm probably going to talk about that.

We're going to be doing more livestreamss tomorrow and the day after, same time, same place. Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to get our full coverage of cool PAX stuff!

Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick Pro
coming soon

Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick Pro coming soon screenshot

It wouldn't be a fighting game if there wasn't a corresponding arcade stick plastered with relevant imagery. Mad Catz has entered a multi-year agreement with Capcom to put out Street Fighter X Tekken controllers and accessories in North America and Europe.

The Street Fighter X Tekken Arcade FightStick Pro (shown above) is expected to ship out this September. You can get your pre-order on now, but these aren't exactly something you would go impulse buy -- unless you make it rain on a consistent basis, that is.

This. (nsfw-ish)

Since 2006 Destructoid has published every form of conceivable games editorial imaginable. We've brought you coverage of every gaming event around the world, interviewed nearly every important gaming personality, sat with developers, chased lawyers, fought with corrupt games marketers, and have published thousands and thousands of reviews, previews, rumors, and leaks. We believe in hard-hitting gaming because that's where our passion lies and that's what our readers want most ... with one exception to the rule.

In our entire canon of work do you know what our most popular article of all time is according to our server-side analytics?  This nerdcore gallery of boobies from 2006.  Yup.

Dear reader, you are unabashedly The Dude.

When I opened up my inbox today I was surprised to find none other than email from Playboy offering our readers the enclosed high resolution wallpaper of Jo Garcia, the part-dork-part-model hybrid pictured somewhere in that vortex of video game peripherals. The ongoing series of wallpapers are housed at Playboy's Gamer Next Door, and there's also a production video coming. (No pun intended).

On one hand we stubbornly have ignored our numbers and rarely strayed from core gaming news. On the other hand ... well, you don't want to know what the other hand is doing.

Internet, what is is that you command me to do?

In all seriousness I've asked various colleagues who publish web sites and my research has concluded is that we must absolutely participate in some way that is respectful to readers that don't want breasts-on-games, and maybe cleverly disguise it somewhere else on the site.  Am I right, my naughty forum goers?

Ladies and gentlemen, our magic word for this kind of content is now "kittens".  If you'd like to see more kittens on Destructoid please sound off in the comments below.

Limbo dev: new game takes 3 years, our engine is
FUBAR

Limbo dev: new game takes 3 years, our engine is FUBAR screenshot

In a recent interview with Edge, Playdead game director Arnt Jensen explained that the Danish dev's next game will take three-and-a-half years to make.

"A good game takes time," says Playdead CEO Dino Patti. Game director Arnt Jensen describes the yet-unnamed project as "more ambitious than Limbo." Still, three-and-a-half years seems like a long time, yes?

Perhaps not when you consider that Playdead are ditching the proprietary engine they used for Limbo in favor of Unity. "[Building an engine] was just too much work," Jensen says. "It's like having a double product, doing both engine and game."

So, Playdead won't be starting from scratch, but they will have to learn the ends and outs of Unity. Still, that seems easier than tweaking the Limbo architecture to suit whatever they're working on next: Patti also explained that "Limbo's engine only works when it's black and white now. It can't render color anymore."

Heh. Whoops.

Hospital Story Review (iPhone)

Gamezebo Rating: 70

Depending on where you live in the world, there?s a pretty good chance that your local hospital is suffering from a real doctor shortage. And if that is the case where you live, there?s a pretty good chance you live in the same world as Hospital Story, a new time management game about an ER with a terrible doctor-to-patient ratio.

Destructoid's gamescom 2011 wrap up

Destructoid's gamescom 2011 wrap up screenshot

Last week's gamescom madness in Cologne was a busy time for Destructoid's European contingent. The seven of us that were writing, interviewing, and shooting and editing video had to run for bathroom break in the few spare moments we had in a very busy schedule, but all of it was for you guys. Missed something? Then take the weekend to catch up while you mope about not being at PAX Prime!

We saw a lot of new games and new content for games we already knew about, shot a lot of video interviews, and had a thousands of sweaty causcasian Germans obstructing our path. Eleven other members of our UK community had to deal with them the most on the show floor, but they had a blast in Cologne regardless.

Maybe next year you'll be a part of it too?

These people did an amazing job working under pressure with the tools they had, especially Sebastian and Jamie who joined us for gamescom's insanity for the first time this year.

I hope everyone has had as much fun reading and watching our content as we've had creating it, so make sure to tune in next year for all your gamescom coverage.

Behind the torment: Dark Souls prologue video
part one

Behind the torment: Dark Souls prologue video part one screenshot

This first in a series of prologue videos for Dark Souls tells us more about the birth of the game's world.

Granted, there isn't a lot to talk about quite yet, but I am intrigued to see where these go. You know sh*t's about to get real when crispy naked dudes start rising from the ashes.

If a gun-wielding maniac were to ever forcibly ask me which videogame I would not want to live in as a citizen -- well, first I would call Cobra for help -- but then I'd probably go with Dark Souls.
