If you haven't heard, there's a PlayStation Network demo for PS3 game Yakuza 4. It's a great game, and I can tell you now that the demo is only a small taste of what's in store for the March 15th release. I couldn't wait. I got the Japanese version. Still, I'm looking forward to playing it in my first language, especially when I consider that Sega has left it intact this time around. Thanks for that, Sega.
It may only be just a taste of the full thing, but there's still hitting faces with golf clubs and throwing people off buildings. And really, it's hard to bitch when you have those kinds of things at your disposal. Enjoy.

Settle down, children. Time for the news. The serious, hard-hitting, boring grown-up news of The Destructoid Show. Sadly, no cosplay or erotic fanfiction this episode. Although I did get a new shirt.
Today, we wish The Legend of Zelda a happy 25th birthday, make surprised and excited faces about iPad 2 news, and then I zone out while Tara starts talking about Minecraft. Then: Exciting news about Bulletstorm DLC and the Gears of War 3 beta, an official list of Nintendo 3DS launch titles, and the Vietnamese government tells its gaming community to go to bed. And then -- Whoa! Breaking Elder Scrolls news!
We just recently broke 20,000 subscribers on YouTube. Plans are underway for some kind of dumbass pizza party to celebrate. However, we could still use some love on iTunes. So go say things about Tara's chest, or ask "what happened to Holmes?" We'll love you forevah!
Spoiler Alert: Tara went to Vegas last weekend. She has no interesting hooker/firearm-related stories from her trip.

I've been almost done with a preview of Retro City Rampage for a while now. I'm waiting until a little bit closer to the game's release to post it because I want you to read it a little closer to when you can actually play the game yourself, and because I'm swamped with deadlines-related stuff that just can't wait.
In the meantime, I'll just tell you a little bit about the game's controls. As you can see, they're not that simple. That's OK though, because they're a big part of one of my favorite aspects of Retro City Rampage; the combat.
In Grand Theft Auto-type games, the combat pretty much consists of punching people or hitting them with a car until you get a gun. after that, you shoot people until you run out of ammo. Maybe there will be a chainsaw in there somewhere, but that's about it. It gets to feel like a one note tune pretty quickly. In Retro City Rampage, you can do all that too, plus jump on guys heads, and/or pick them up and toss them around in true Mario style, and that's not even counting the Tanooki suits, Bionic Arms, Sonic shoes, POW blocks, and NES Zappers you pick up later.
There are so many options for how to take on a given combat situation that it's hard to imagine the game ever getting boring. What I'm trying to tell you is, Retro City Rampage is awesome and I want it.

Shawn McGrath is upping the ante with his independent game Dyad, which is self-described as a racing/shooter/puzzle hybrid. During PAX East in March, it'll be playable on THE MACHINE.
The contraption is demonstrated in the video above -- it's a motorized ride reminiscent of those roller coaster simulators you'd find in a mall. Booth I9 in Indie Alley is where this sucker will be located, thrill seekers. Don't forget it.
And since presumably not everyone wants to strap into THE MACHINE, Dyad will also be playable on regular old PlayStation 3 at PAX East.

Grey Area, a smart-phone games developer based in Finland has raised $2.5 million, according to TechCrunch.
Grey Area is the developer of the mobile alternative reality game called Shadow Cities, which turns real city streets into a virtual battle zone for players, with missions, casting spells, and mages. Think FourSquare if FourSquare was actually a game, and not some pointless app that you can only use to check-in real-world locations and nothing more.
Nerdy, yes. Cool, indeed.

Dan Fornace's Game Boy-style Super Smash Bros. demake has gotten another playable demo. This second installment of Super Smash Land, as it's been so appropriately titled, adds Link and Pikachu to the roster and new stages.
That makes four characters in total, since Mario and Kirby were already in the first demo. It may not seem like much, but there's a surprisingly amount of detail and thought put into this free game. I could picture Super Smash Land as a real cartridge game had the original Game Boy not predated the Nintendo 64.
Head on over to Piki Geek to grab the PC demo.
