NEWS - The official blog for Shiren The Wanderer has just given us a heads up on some of the tactics you’ll need to stick to in order to survive in the game.
The project lead on Shiren The Wanderer, Scott Strichart, wants you to know that he hates all you gamers who like to rampage through dungeons swinging your weapons randomly. In this game, he stresses that tactics really are your friend even though some people might be more apt to ignore them.
In his post, Scott analyzes Shiren and his companions’ battle against the evil Centipede boasting six katanas at his disposal. The grid-based battle system here will allow you and your AI to affectively combat the Centipede throughout their turns. However, you can also turn on “Full Control Mode” to take place of your AI when you think your tactics would do better.
Scott sets up Shiren for his tank, being that he utilizes a shield, and Sensei for attack given that his dual wielding will allow him two attacks for each turn. He also ensures that he’s got his inventory stocked with healing herbs in case smart tactical positioning isn’t enough to defeat a very large, very sneaky Centipede with six katanas.
I don’t know about all of you, but this isn’t really groundbreaking news to me. This is the general route you should be taking for most RPGs, especially in dungeon areas. Stocked inventory, planned moves including knowing your character’s strengths and weaknesses and strategic positioning is usually what I’m doing. Nonetheless, it seems like a good peak into the bosses and the sort of battles you’ll be getting yourself into as Shiren The Wanderer, and we’re promised more blogging in the near future.

No, Quake Live isn't out of beta yet, silly; we all know that isn't happening during our lifetime. What I'm here to talk about today is related to the holidays. Let's hope you aren't sick of this stuff, because there's bound to be more on the way. Much, much more.
As of today, Quake Live will temporarily give players access to two news skins, "Festive Santa" and "Vixen," plus a remake of the Team Arena map "Distant Screams." The new stage is called "Silent Night" and as seen here, it's all decked out with holiday cheer.
These goodies will be offered for the next two weeks, so make sure to make good use of them during that time. Is anyone else disturbed by the female characters? I'm good up until the point where I see their masks. Things get a little awkward at that point.

Add to myYahoo! So Blip Fest has come and gone, and while it would've been impossible to record all of the great performances, I did shoot some interesting stuff at Wednesday night's Open Mic. So many talented and diverse artists turned out, and despite technical problems, quite a lot of people got to perform. From darker tracks, to reggae, to rapping over chiptunes, to playing notes on an SNES controller, to a sing-along Miley Cyrus cover, no genre went overlooked. Here's until next year...

Over the impending long and cheerful weekend, 1 vs. 100 Live will be opening up to Xbox LIVE Silver members. That's December 24 at 9:00 AM PST through the 28th at 9:00 AM PST for the following regions: US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, and Germany.
Plus, this Saturday will see a holiday episode of 1 vs. 100 starting at 6:00 PM PST. You better be in attendance, or else Chris Cashman will come over to your house and bust up the place. Probably.
As corny as it will sound to anyone on the outside looking in, I can't think of many other games more family-oriented and perfect for this specific time of the year -- on Xbox 360, at least -- than 1 vs. 100. It's also an opportunity to impress your extended family with your trivia know-how.
Rock their faces off with knowledge!
