So, a new Crossfire map is heading out on Steam for Monday Night Combat tonight. In it, there's a giant chicken you can ride. Or shoot. Do I need to go on? Okay, probably should.
The update is more than just Uncle Tully's Funland -- reserved slots for server admins to work with, an action menu for muting and voting to kick, additional character animations, balancing, and fixes are also included in this free download.
It's getting to be about that point where double dipping with this version seems like a must.

Add to myYahoo! While Valve's Portal 2 features plenty of well-written GLaDOS dialog, there are some unused statements from everyone's favorite passive-aggressive artificial intelligence resting in the data files of the PC version of the game that do not appear during the course of the game. Most of these are incomplete leftovers from earlier versions of the story, but there's one instance of a complete exchange, and emmtee from MetaFilter took the time to stitch it together for our enjoyment. The subject matter?...

At first I thought all the fatalities were cool in this Mortal Kombat compilation. That is until I started realizing that every character is made out of paper or something if they can be torn apart so easily. My favorite of the bunch though is the fatality that pays homage to Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe.

NEWS - Capcom has announced that a special prototype version of the upcoming Mega Man Legends 3 will be arriving as a launch title for Nintendo's soon-to-launch eShop on the Nintendo 3DS. Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version will give fans of the series a chance to see how the game is shaping up with a build that was current when 2011 began.
MML3 is the first video game by Capcom to incorporate fane feedback and input during the development process; allowing die hard and dedicated fans to shape the game as it is designed. The eShop will be made available on Nintendo 3DS systems through a free system update coming sometime in May 2011. When it hits, Capcom's prototype should be there and waiting for you...

NEWS - Sports gaming site pastapadre.com is reporting that EA Sports may institute a subscribtion-based persistent online profile system to many of its sports franchises. Now persistent online profiles are nothing new, most gamers have them in one form or another, but charging a subscription fee is new, and sounds like a bit of a stretch on EA's part.
The rumored perks of this subscription service range from membership badges and discounts on DLC for participating EA Sports console titles, to the ability to transfer already paid-for DLC from one game to the next (meaning, for example, you wouldn't have to re-buy all those Tiger Woods courses again next year) and the ability to download games before their official street date.
So, yes, there are some good perks, but at this point any kind of subscription-based service is just inviting backlash from gamers that already feel nickle and dimed to death.
You can read more on the subject at both joystiq and gameinformer for an arguably less cynical take on the subject.
I'll just say it: I hate this idea. The constant battle to drain my wallet by tricking me into buying things that only exist so I'll buy them just bums me out.

While work is being done on Serious Sam 3: BFE, a few indie studios are tackling the franchise in their own unique ways. In the case of developer Mommy's Best Games, they're putting out a downloadable PC and console title called Serious Sam: Double D.
The side-scrolling Contra-like game sees Sam doing what he does best as he takes on ridiculous amounts of enemies all at once on his killing rampage. What makes Double D really rad is the Gunstacker weapon, which equips all of your guns at once so you can shoot everything off at the same time. Best weapon ever?! Get the full lowdown on the weapon on Mommy's blog.
There's also a new monkey enemy who has an axe and grenade launcher for hands and jet packs for feet. I love videogames so much for crazy sh*t like this.

Capcom is promoting the hell out of Mega Man Legends 3. To celebrate the reveal of the game's prototype version (coming soon to the 3DS's eShop), Capcom showed off about ten minutes of the game in action (seen above, and after the jump). The game's official Japanese website has been updated with new music, info, and wallpapers. Capcom Unity has a lot to say about the game too. In the past couple of days they've shown off a 3D model viewer of the game's newly revealed character Barret, an interview with one of the game's developers, and look at the game's voice recording sessions.
Thing is, all this promotion may be for nothing. According to the interview linked above, the full game will never see release unless the prototype version sells well. This wouldn't be the first time that Capcom heavily promoted a Mega Man game that may never see release. Capcom made a huge deal out of Mega Man Universe at TGS last year, giving out 'do rags, producing limited edition t-shirts, and devoting a huge chunk of their floor space to the game. Then, out of nowhere, it gets canceled.
My only guess is that since Keiji Inafune left the company, opinions are mixed amongst Capcom's management on the topic of Mega Man's future. The series just doesn't bring in the money, at least, not in the way that Capcom has been handling the property of late. Who's to blame for that; Mega Man or Capcom? If New Super Mario Bros. Wii can sell over 15 million copies worldwide, couldn't a well crafted, fun to play Mega Man title do at least half that?
