One of the more prestigious gaming awards given out each year are the Baftas. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts actually treats these awards as something worthwhile instead of the media whoring that the VGAs are and thus the Baftas usually garner a bit more respect. This years winners have been announced and while most of them aren't that big a surprise the Game of the Year might be.
Batman: Arkham Asylum left the building with the award, beating out favorite Uncharted 2, which took home four other awards, and the seven-time nominated Assassin's Creed 2, which took home no awards. Also of note is that BAFTA gave Flower an award for artistic achievement. The "people" came up with the least surprising win of all when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took home the GAME Award, which is voted on by the public.
This year BAFTA honored Shigeru Miyamoto with their Academy Fellowship Award, and he showed up looking far more dapper then I've ever seen him in a tux with a red carnation. I didn't know the man could wear anything but t-shirts.
Full winner list after the jump.

The eater of men, the venerable Mike Tyson, wasn't on-hand at the British Academy of Film and Television awards show. Just as a good -- the BAFTA's media-whoring side step makes the event all the more meaningful, especially to the winners, who are now in the process of receiving their prizes.

NEWS - If you missed South Park this week they showed off the version of Tiger Woods 11 that I think a lot of people would want to see. Maybe we'll get this in the next Mortal Kombat game...

I'm not sure if I should seriously describe what World of LordCraft is or just cue up the laugh track and let it roll on for a solid ten minutes. If you haven't guessed from the lawsuit worthy name, the trailer above for the upcoming MMO castle building game (I think that is what it is) is pretty much the biggest rip off of World of Warcraft ever made. They really don't seem to have changed anything. From the art style to the story (the Horde battling the Alliance) GSprite, the game's developer, has simply taken WoW and made it cheaper.
The money making scam game is about to go into beta the official site says, and you can log in and play now if you wish. One can only assume that we will be staring at mostly naked women advertising this game in the months to come, and then reporting on a lawsuit from Activision soon after that.
I choose not to speculate on the future and instead make fun of the trailer, which contains one of the best typos since "All your base are belong to us." Sure, "Never surrender you freedom" is a much easier mistake to make when typing, but the fact that they missed that they left off the "r" is just as priceless even if their native language isn't English. Also, the narrator is clearly just some guy they picked up off the street and asked to speak in a really low voice.
Greatest videogame trailer ever or greatest videogame trailer ever?
[Thanks, Darren C.]

Add to myYahoo!Ever have one of those days where everyone thinks you're crazy, and you start to believe them? Waking up in an asylum isn't a good start, and it gets worse when you start to suffer increasingly vivid hallucinations about strange places and monstrous creatures. Is there a reason for it all? Or are you simply as crazy as everyone says? Sanitarium is the cult classic point-and-click horror adventure that shouldn't be missed by any fan of the genre.

NEWS - If you were planning on going to PAX East next week and haven't purchased tickets yet you're out of luck as the show is completely sold out. There are absolutely no tickets left for sale so if you don't have tickets you're going to have to hope they free up a few extra tickets the days of the show or hope that you can find someone who's scalping tickets.

Add to myYahoo! In the late 8-bit/early 16-bit era, Ocean was known primarily for publishing movie-based games. Usually these titles were generic platformer designs with artwork inspired by the movie license slapped on top. And usually these games were released just in time for the movie to hit the big screen, with ads prominently featuring the movie logo.
For one such game, things were different.
First, this game didn't make it to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System until 1994, seven years after the movie's theatrical release.
Second, the logo was almost hidden in the ad:
See it? Wrapped around two of the three shiny, shiny bullets? Brian de Palma's The Untouchables?
The logo is actually quite a bit easier to spot in this scan than in the original print ad -- I found myself staring at the page in Video Games & Computer Entertainment for a long, confused moment, wondering what the ad was promoting, before I spotted it.
Remember, kids -- when you're advertising a game based on a license that's no longer current, the last thing you want to do is hide the name.
