The Winnitron Indie Arcade Game Network has just added another feather to its cap as Mark Essen's Nidhogg has been announced as available on all Winnitron Indie Arcade machines this weekend. The network of free-to-play machines featuring more than a dozen games from independent developers is rapidly growing, with cabinets in Canada, Australia, the Netherlands and the very first Winnitron in the United States which recently powered on at NYU's Game Center.
If you think it sucks that all of these cool indie games are only available on less than half a dozen machines in the world, there is something you can do about that. Why not go and talk to the proprietor of your favorite arcade or game shop about building a Winnitron for your city?

Every time I post about Minecraft, I promise myself that it'll be the last time for a while. "It has to be! You'll get burned out, self." But then someone at Mojang does something interesting enough to break my short-lived vow of silence.
This time, it's Markus Persson tweeting about a sky dimension. He initially came off as frustrated, and it seemed like this was a concept he had merely been tinkering with, but he went on to say: "because PC Gamer made such a big deal of the sky dimension, I guess I'll have to finish it. Consider it confirmed."
Good on you, boys. Too many hours of my life have been spent attempting to create floating islands by hand, so this is very nice to hear. Take a look at the initial images.

The above video is of Massive Epic Raging Destruction (MERD), a first-person shooter game built using the game creation tools in Little Big Planet 2. As a guy who can barely grasp the idea of what's possible with enough time, elbow grease and Media Molecule's software, I can barely form words over this.
It looks a hell of a lot better than a lot of indie shooters made without the restrictions imposed by building within the framework afforded by Little Big Planet 2. Some of the camera shake effects would probably get hold pretty quick and the character is a lot slower than what I think I'm interested in playing. But damn if it ain't impressive.
Do you think if they had abbreviated it as "MERDe" that a language filter would allow it?

Next summer, Bohemia Interactive is giving us a break from last-action-hero modern warfare with another one of its frighteningly realistic (but still totally heroic) military sims. Yep, it's none other than Arma 3.
This one is taking us behind enemy lines on a Mediterranean island -- one modeled after "real geographic data," no less -- for its open-ended story. Looking at the features being touted here, it seems like more of the same, but improved.
PhysX support, a "revamped" animation system, and more co-op and competitive multiplayer are what's being promised. Bohemia will be at E3, although I'm not entirely sure anyone on staff is big into the series.

Blake Griffin, power forward for the Los Angeles Clippers and 2011 NBA Rookie of the Year, seems to be a fan of the videogames. In this humorous video, Griffin stands outside of id Software's offices in a desperate bid to be included in the developer's upcoming first-person shooter, RAGE. It's silly and I have to admit that I laughed a couple of times between Griffin and the folks watching from the office.
Griffin has already had a bit of the gaming spotlight before, having appeared as the cover athlete for NCAA Basketball 10.

Pre-ordering Battlefield 3 means you get free access to the Back to Karkand pack, a collection of four multiplayer maps reimagined for this new installment.
Wake Island has got to be one of the series' more iconic maps, wouldn't you say? Depending on how well the implementation matches this concept art, it could be quite the haunting battleground.
Clearly, it's seen better days.
