The team at Square Enix has a lot to celebrate today. Final Fantasy XIII has sold over one million units here in America in the first five days that it's been out. Final Fantasy XIII has now become the fastest-selling installment in the franchise's history.
Square didn't give a breakdown of whether FF XIII sold better on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 so we'll have to wait for the NPD data next month to get a clear picture on that .... along with a ton of console fanboy rage. With the release of XIII, the Final Fantasy series has now reached 96 million units sold worldwide since the first game appeared on the original Nintendo.
I've been hearing a lot of mixed things about Final Fantasy XIII. Some love it and others are bored with it already. How's your experience been with Square's latest offering?

NEWS - On Monday I posted about my inability to find a PS3 at a GameStop around Columbus, Ohio. I called every day this week to locate a new system but none were to be found. A handful of refurbished units started popping up yesterday at various stores. Today, though, the store closest to my home got a fresh shipment. I'm now the proud owner of a slim 120GB model.
Side Story
While I was there I picked up a copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The Uncharted series is a big reason why I wanted a PS3. When I showed my wife the game, she was intrigued by the premise. She likes classic video games (of the 2D Mario and PS1 Crash Bandicoot ilk) so I wasn't too surprised until she asked me to play it so she could watch. Let's see: someone asks me to play my brand new console on our biggest TV. How could I say no?
To my surprise, she loved every minute of it. She even told me that I'm not allowed to play it if she's not watching. The story moves along enough to keep her interested and she "coaches" me on how to solve puzzles. This is a rather interesting development that I enjoy. Have you ever played a game while someone watched in this fashion? Or do you like to occasionally watch someone else play a game so you can take in the scenery?

Ruffian Games is hard at work on Crackdown 2 and they've finally let us know when we get our hands on the sequel we were all were waiting for.
Crackdown 2's development looks to be coming along nicely from the new multiplayer video they've released. We get see snippets from the game with interviews with the developers sprinkled in. The new multiplayer footage shows all of the chaos we can cause during the new 4 player co-op mode. It looks insanely fun being part of 4 player gang just causing destruction throughout the city. The developers also mention a game mode called "Rocket Tag" that looks awesome. They have built in vehicles that will allow all four players to ride on at the same time and take out people on all sides. The original Crackdown was a lot of fun and I have no doubt we can expect even more the next time around.
Ruffian Games have officially announced a release date for Crackdown 2. We will finally get our hands on the game on July 6th and it will be available exclusively on Xbox 360. Check out the new multiplayer video after the break.Read more...

NEWS - Ubisoft announced the availability of the demo for The Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom. The demo contains on map that's playable in three different modes. It also has a tutorial video with a voice cast and some explanations of additional features. You can find it at the usual places online.
They even released a video that shows off the capable graphics engine the game uses.
video details and more
It's quite impressive and even makes me want to try the demo. Then I remember the ill-advised, completely over-the-top DRM the game uses and I walk away shaking my head. Why, Ubisoft? Why? The DRM alone will keep me from buying any of their products on PC until they've made some changes.

I'll never turn down an excuse to bring up Trials HD, no matter how unnatural or forced it may feel. There's something simultaneously horrible and awesome about that game -- it's vaguely reminiscent of the self-inflicting pain you'd have to suffer through before you "got" any of the early Mega Man games.
Thankfully, this seemingly random video RedLynx tossed our way is pretty cool, and more importantly, it's past your bedtime, which is when we aren't afraid to dig deeper and post the day's weirder stories. This is perfect late-night fodder, if you ask me.
Oh, and while we're on this subject, the most recent downloadable content pack for the game rocks. Definitely give it a download if you enjoy the core Trials HD experience.
