Just Cause 2 Launch Trailer Released

Just Cause 2 Launch Trailer ReleasedAvalanche Studios' eagerly anticipated sequel Just Cause 2 is coming next week and now we get one last action packed trailer to hold us over.

Just Cause 2's release date is right around the corner so Avalanche Studios and Eidos have released a launch trailer for their upcoming sequel. Just Cause 2 received the demo treatment on March 4th and it was announced that over two million of you have downloaded it. The launch trailer and the demo perfectly capture what this game has to offer. Few games have been able to capture the true sandbox game feel like the Grand Theft Auto series but Just Cause 2 is looking to pick up that torch. I've spent more time just playing around in the GTA games than I did on the actual games and Just Cause 2 has that same feeling. It looks to be a huge time suck when it comes out next week and I can't wait.

Just Cause 2 is going to be released on March 23rd for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the PC. Check out the launch trailer after the jump.Read more...

Someone hold me: The freaky leftovers from
BioShock

When I think back to my experience with BioShock, I think "atmospheric," not "scary" or even "creepy," for that matter. Looking over some of the unused enemy designs that were posted on Irrational Games' Web site makes me wonder if somewhere, in an alternate universe, BioShock was a terrifying game.

Insects and parasites attached to humans, a splicer not unlike Left 4 Dead 2's charger, a guy with a yam-shaped hand ... dude; this is trippy stuff we're dealing with here. I also really enjoy the "jellyman" design shown above -- it's disgustingly awesome, isn't it?

For as crazy as a game like BioShock was, it has nothing on this scrapped concept art. Imagine how different the tone would have been had Irrational implemented a few of these creepers into Rapture.

video details and more

If Anthony weren't so busy turbo-suing Gaijin Games (and getting counter-turbo-sued in the process) he might have taken the time to notice that he's not the only Destructoid veteran making indie games: Our very own Gangles has a number of games to his credit under his NoFunGames label, including Norwegian Wood and, most recently, Pax Britannica.

How do I know? Well, mostly because I read his blog and follow him on Twitter. But also because IndieGames.com has included Pax Brittanica in their "Best of the Rest" list -- a handful of freeware Gamma4 applicants that didn't quite make it to the showcase at GDC but nevertheless deserve your time and attention.

And probably your money, too.

In case you haven't been reading Anthony's coverage of the Gamma4 competition (and shame on you!), all games submitted must be playable with one button. So, there's no excuse not to give Pax Brittanica a try, unless you don't have four friends.

While you're at it, be sure to check out Beau Blyth's Fish Face, Imwill Games' BiBimBap Arcade, Shaun Pauley's Boyfriend vs. Girlfriend, and Nick Rudzickz' The American Dream: Are We Not Drawn Onward to New Era?. They're all free, easily downloadable, and at least marginally interesting.

There's no better time than now to start following Ryan O'Donnell's advice, I suppose.
