Uh oh ...

Hot off the heels of Ubisoft's serpentine PC DRM, Electronic Arts has revealed that it doesn't want to be left out of the hate and has jumped into the fire as well. Command & Conquer 4, like Ubi's recent PC games, will require a constant online connection to play. No Internet? No game that you paid for!

EA proudly declared that C&C4 has "NO DRM" but clearly this is not the case. C&C4 will boot you if your connection drops, making it no less insidious than Assassin's Creed 2 and Silent Hunter 5. Electronic Arts is trying to justify the DRM by saying the game updates user statistics, but it's a poor excuse given that other games simply wait until a player is back online to update stats.

Very poor form, EA. It seems every time that publisher comes close to removing its old reputation as an evil entity, it takes one step backwards into the dark ages. For shame.

Majesty 2 patched, now mod-able

NEWS - Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim just got patch 1.3, in preparation for the Majesty 2: Kingmaker expansion. Downloading the patch will get you some new content, as well as make the expansion pack an automatic and compulsory download.

A new randomizing feature shuffles the locations of non-monster quest dens along with temple and trading post construction sites, meaning fuzzjillions of unique playthroughs! Random treasure chests are a welcome change, as is the new map editor and open access to basic game resources for modders.

If you are one of the many round eyes who thought Final Fantasy XIII was too linear, then never fear. Final Fantasy Versus XIII' director, Tetsuya Nomura, has confirmed that his contribution to the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga will create a fine illusion of freedom, with a world map and old school airships.

"Not everything is connected together, so the various areas have different levels of progress. However, you can fly across the world map in an air ship," confirms Nomura.

Versus is one of Square Enix's biggest mysteries. We've only seen a few scraps of teaser footage and the occasional screenshot, with very little else to go on in between. From what we can tell, it's set on a totally different world than XIII, only containing a similar theme of humans being in thrall to more powerful beings.

In any case, after my personal disappointment with XIII, I now look to this PS3 exclusive to plug the RPG gap. I really hope Versus can provide a better product so I can carry Square Enix round on a big chair like king of the town.
