Mistwalker has today shared some new details for its upcoming Wii RPG, The Last Story. In the latest update, Hironobu Sakaguchi has talked about the various towns that populate Ruli Island.
The most interesting detail is how the inhabitants of each town will change their behavior periodically. Sometimes the changes will be dramatic, sometimes more subtle. Mistwalker intends to create a world that feels alive and encourages exploration, and the dynamic population is part of that. As for the design of the towns, the team has taken inspiration from France and Italy to create the architecture.
Each town is also going to be large. The game's producer laments how most towns in JRPGs these days feel too streamlined and full of dead ends, promising that the towns of Last Story are designed instead for a player to get lost in as they explore the many nooks and crannies. Random wandering is one of Mistwalker's overall goals.
I am really, really excited for The Last Story. Mistwalker seems committed to keeping the old school flavor of the classic JRPG, as evidenced by the sublime Lost Odyssey. As the Wii becomes home to more and more good looking RPGs, I'm glad to see Mistwalker contributing to the little waggle box. Should be an awesome ride!

Not impressed with PlayStation Move? Think it's a petty "me-too" Wii cashgrab? Think one waggle system is enough? FOOL! Sony is here to explain why PlayStation Move is better than the Wii, and it's all thanks to that most underused of gimmicks, the PlayStation Eye.
"It's a homegrown technology and we chose it for a number of reasons -- chiefly because of the precision that we knew we could get," says Worldwide Studios VP Scott Rohde. "When you're talking about a game that was demoed like Table Tennis out there, you might be able to play that on another system, but I think we showed very well that you can get that top spin or slice in there and it really feels like you're playing a Table Tennis game.
"Because of the camera, the PS Eye, we add that whole element of augmented reality. And I think that's a big advantage we have over what the Wii has done to date. That's definitely an audience that we're targeting ... Maybe someone is sitting on the fence about whether or not to upgrade [to PS3] and [Move] could lead them to do it."
I am still not sure Sony will get the audience it's looking for. I know I bought a PS3 because I wanted the things it already has -- great looking traditional games. I'm a little worried that Sony will go motion-crazy in a desperate attempt to corner a market that doesn't exist. Just look at how well Microsoft's attempts with LIPS and that stupid movie game worked. Not well.

Has Microsoft's insipid MS Points system left you with some spare fake cash that is utterly useless on its own? Good! Some new Avatar gear is hitting Xbox Live Marketplace today, allowing gamers with too much money and not enough sense the opportunity to wear Alan Wake or Perfect Dark themed clothing.
It's almost as if you are paying Microsoft for the privilege of advertising its games. Amazing!
I'm astounded Microsoft continues with this stuff. That must mean Avatar stuff actually sells really well, and that's just terrible. Who are the insane troglodytes who buy that stuff!?

Square Enix artist and director Tetsuya Nomura has teased a sequel to the relatively decent PSP fan-service brawler, Dissidia: Final Fantasy. While he stopped short of confirming any solid plans for the game, he certainly didn't deny anything either.
"I'll try my best for a Dissidia: Final Fantasy sequel," hints Nomura, via Twitter.
Sounds like it's something he definitely wants to do, so it's just a case of whether or not Square Enix wants it too. The first game had a lot of promise, although a few faults held it back. If the sequel could fix some of those issues, it'd be a great portable title indeed.
