A bit of a surprise, EA Mobile announced that it would be bringing Mirror's Edge to the iPhone this Spring. My first question was "Okay, how does that work?"
Well, here's my answer in the form of a trailer showing off the game in action. It looks like a bit of a 2D-style running sidescroller, rendered using a 3D engine. Visually it's not bad, and Faith looks as limber as ever. Anyone else getting a Canabalt vibe?
Mirror's Edge on iPhone will feature 14 levels of running, sliding, climbing, rolling, and jumping. It looks like it'll be a nice diversion until the inevitable sequel arrives. And yes, despite so-so retail success, word around the water cooler is that DICE is working on a sequel. That's something you want, right?

One phrase I hate is "genre bending". It's too close to "gender bending", and a cop out in a way of explaining what a game can do. The upcoming Soul Master MMO produced by GamesCampus is being marketed as such. It's an MMO with RTS tactics (structure building, etc.). It sounds intriguing, and a little bit like some of the CCG based MMO's out there, but it looks like everything else coming out on smaller MMO platforms right now: straight out of 2002 Final Fantasy style anime characters. Please, please please; if you're going to come out with a unique and potentially cool idea, PLEASE use your own unique look and feel to present it.

Back in Janurary when Jeremy first posted that Sony was teaming up with Mt. Dew and 7-11, we knew there would be God of War III exclusive content. What we didn't know is that it would be available only at 7-11, and that it would only be exclusive until 5/1. I just got my weekly Pepsi product email (it includes contests, coupons, and sometimes straight up free stuff), and it mentions the exclusivity will end 5/1. God of War III content will be on Slurpee cups, while PlayStation Home content will be under caps of 2 liter bottles.

There you have it. Above you'll see the box art for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Square Enix's Front Mission Evolved. They passed those along this morning along with a few new screenshots, which you'll find in the gallery below.
Strategy role-playing goes right out the window of your huge mech as you'll actually get into the action this time, stomping around and blowing sh*t up. My interest grew greatly after our Q&A with Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto. Fellow SRPG nerds might have some hesitation going from menus to melee, but you have to admit that this game looks really good.
Speaking of looking, game art is being dropped on the game's official Facebook page. There's some great stuff there that's definitely worth checking out.

Do you see this, Zach? It's a contest to win one of three copies of Deadly Premonition, each with a promotional poster. Wow, wouldn't you like to win one of those, Zach? Unfortunately we can't, so we're going to have to give them to the Destructoid readers instead.
Here comes another contest, clear as a crisp spring morning. Destructoid has three copies of Deadly Premonition to give away, courtesy of the fine folk at Ignition. Each copy of this excellent horror/comedy game will come with a poster as well. Be the envy of all your friends next time you saunter into the Galaxy of Terror. It'll be the region-locked 360 version, so obviously this can't apply to readers outside of America.
In order to win, you need to perform a very simple task. You must F .. K in the coffee! What on Earth does that mean, exactly? It's up to YOU to decide. Post proof of your FK'ing in the coffee to be in with a chance. If it's a photo or video, make sure there is a Destructoid sign visible to prove your legitimacy.
Contest ends tomorrow. With those incredibly vague entry conditions, I now leave you to work it out. Let's go, Zach!

Our buddies over at Joystiq uncovered some juicy documentation regarding Microsofts Spring 2010 update to the Xbox 360 Dashboard, specifically that the console would now support external USB hard drives. Yup, you'll soon be able to store DLC, saved games and arcade titles on an external, USB HDD of your choosing.
Don't get all that excited, however. Microsoft is too smart to pass up on the lucrative profit margins that current 360 hard drives provide and have put some limitations on how the drives work. Drives used with the 360 will have its write-capable space limited to 16 GB. Anyone who bought an early 360 Pro with a 20 GB drive will be able to tell you how much good that is for any serious gamer.
This seems to be more like an expansion/replacement of 360 memory cards, which are probably a product MS doesn't sell a ton of anyway. That, or Microsoft figured out that they may be losing Live Marketplace business on Arcade owners who refuse to pay the exorbitant price for a 360 HDD.
Ultimately, this isn't the earth-shattering news I was hoping for, but I'm sure there are people out there happy to hear it.
