Disgusting

Who would've guessed that toppings like licorice and granola on top of pizza would be a gross combination? Oh, wait, everyone would guess that.

Live Show: Splatterhouse continues on Backlog

Live Show: Splatterhouse continues on Backlog screenshot

After the weekend, when it's time to fire the Backlog machine up again, I'm usually a little bit disoriented. Spending even a couple of days away from a game has a tendency to make me lose track of where I am and what I was doing and has more than once caused the premature conclusion of my play.

Not so with Splatterhouse. I'm genuinely eager to get back in and bash some more skulls in. I can't even explain it, since the game screams mediocrity in so many respects, but the simple joy of hitting things is very appealing right now.

Come and join me right now as we dive back in to the West Mansion to save the fair Jennifer. I'm playing Splatterhouse live right now and hanging out with the goons in our chat room. Come and join us over on Destructoid's Justin.tv channel!

Destructoid Exclusive: Achron launch trailer

[Here's our own Tim Sheehy's exclusive first look at the upcoming release build of Hazardous Software's Achron. -Josh Tolentino]

For those of you who may not be familiar with the title, Achron presents real-time strategy with a bit of a twist. Rather than only functioning in real-time, it introduces the element of free-form time travel, effectively making it the first meta-time strategy game ever developed. In short, think Starcraft meets Terminator.

How does that work exactly? The game allows multiple players to travel to different points in time and alter future events. This could be anything from unit movements, and production, to actual warfare. These changes result in timewaves that allow others a limited amount of time to react before the changes become permanent. Subsequently, the ability to move through time requires the use of resources, which limit the distance and time one can use to travel.

It may seem like a lot to take in at first, but it's a lot less complicated in practice. Usually I'm not big on real-time strategy; micromanaging has never been my forte, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited by the potential that Achron offers. The concept alone is truly innovative. Suffice to say, it's easily among the most promising independently developed titles I've seen in quite some time, and we're looking forward to seeing more in the months to come.

If you'd like to give Achron a try, you can pre-order a copy of the game via their website. Like Minecraft, this allows you access to the beta and all future releases, including the full the game. Customers who pre-order also gain access to tournaments, mod tools, as well as community art and level submissions. For more information on the game, feel free to visit the website above.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition PC looking
at July

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition PC looking at July screenshot

Capcom's Christian Svensson recently spoke about how the company intends to give PC gaming more attention. He cited a number of impending titles that are leading this initiative, one of which happens to be Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.

When is that coming to PC, again? We have an answer from Andrew at Capcom, as found in this Q&A post about Arcade Edition. It mostly covers general logistics, but there is a quick mention of this version toward the end.

"Trust me, nobody wants to get the PC version out as soon as possible more than us. We still have some logistical hoops to jump through before we can set a hard and firm date, but the goal is to definitely be in the earlier part of July. Scout's honor!"

Console players are getting this content on June 7 via download and at retail on June 28.

PlayStation Store to be updated 'multiple times a
week'

PlayStation Store to be updated 'multiple times a week' screenshot

Sony has released a brand new FAQ in order to better inform fans about the big PlayStation Network resurrection. Most of it is stuff we already know, but some fresh information has been released concerning the PlayStation Store, so listen up.

With the PS Store comes back, you can expect to see multiple updates a week in order to catch up with three weeks of missed content.

"To date, three Tuesday publishes were missed, which included items like Under Siege and the MotorStorm Apocalypse demo," explains the FAQ. "Rest assured that you won’t miss any of this great content. To catch up on the large amount of material, we’ll be publishing to the PlayStation Store multiple times per week once commerce functionality is restored.  We will update the PlayStation.Blog with information on timing of the Store restoration, as well as the full list of new content as each publish occurs."

The bad side is we had to wait. The good side is we'll have loads of stuff to look at when it comes back. I need me some of those new Dynasty Warriors 7 weapons!
