I really liked the first US commercial for Mario Galaxy 2, but this one is better. This is how I would want a Mario movie to feel. Like the US commercial for New Super Mario Bros Wii, I'd want a new Mario movie to fully embrace the weirdness of the Mario Universe, integrate it into regular life, and show how the people of the world find it all to be totally normal.

The Mario games are really weird; more surreal than most videogames, let alone movies or TV shows. Even most Pixar movies, often filled with talking bugs and toys, don't really come close to Mario. Despite being so distanced from reality, Mario and his unique form of videogame logic have managed to find acceptance from mainstream American culture. That's no small feat.

I think it's about time that Nintendo capitalized on that acceptance with a live-action movie, one that doesn't try to constantly prove to the viewer that there was a logical explanation for everything. If the original Super Mario Bros. movie had spent more time reveling in "Mario-logic", and less time trying to makes us OK with the fact that it didn't make any sense, maybe it would have been just effective as this 30 second commercial at evoking that unique Mario-feeling.

So, dear reader, you endured my week-long rhapsody on the charms of Monster Hunter Tri, and you wised up and bought the game. Congratulations, Bunky, but now you have a problem. You're eager to slay oversized beasts with others of your kind, but "Wii online multiplayer" are three words you've never seen appear in the same sentence. How can you find a fun group of people to play with?

Well, you can always take your chances, join three other random folks, and probably enjoy a positive experience. Most of the strangers I've played with have been pleasant and helpful.

I thought it might be useful to collect names and IDs of players looking for people to add to their MH3 friends list. If you're interested and willing, feel free to share yours below. I'll periodically collect IDs and update this post to save you the trouble of sorting through the comments.

Just look at that. A skull with Mario's hat and a pair of zappers. That's hardcore. And, for one day only, you can purchase a shirt featuring the art on it.

The design, called "Original Gamer," was created by Dann Matthews and will be available from TeeFury.com until midnight (EDT) tonight.

I might buy the shirt, but I really think that this belongs permanently inked into the human body. Perhaps not mine, but I'll consider it. Hell, I'm considering it right now. Damn, that's sweet.

According to industry analyst Anita Frazier of NPD the DS is pretty much set to surpass the PlayStation 2 in lifetime sales some time "by early October or November." This would make the DS the best selling system ever in the history of all things that have ever happened pertaining to the selling of systems.

While the PS2 actually still sells surprisingly well for a system as old as it is and the DS's sales have declined in the past month, the dual-screened handheld should still reach this mark pretty easily seeing as it is often the top selling console on a month to month basis. In fact, according to Nintendo's numbers it should have around 129 million units sold already and that puts it pretty close to the PS2's current number of somewhere over 140 million units.

We can all gripe about Nintendo's approach to gaming and opening the market to new/casual gamers, but in 5 1/2 years the DS is going to reach a number it took the most popular gaming machine ever a decade to reach. I don't care who what system you like the best, that accomplishment deserves some respect.

I saw The OneUps perform live today down at Microsoft's campus and it was a blast. TheOneUps are one of the best videogame cover bands around and you need to experience their stuff live.
