Bethesda: Graphics Dont Matter, Youre Lying

The topic of presentation is a rather interesting subject — people make a snap decisions based on presentation. In an OXM podcast, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines said that people who say graphics don?t matter are usually lying. “There?s a lot of people who say graphics don?t matter. To them I usually say ?you?re lying?,” [...]

Brian Provinciano's Retro City Rampage is coming out for Xbox Live Arcade this summer. The XBLA version of the game will have widescreen support, a challenge mode, a character creator mode, and video replays, and it now features Mr. Destructoid as a playable character! You'll be able to find and equip the Destructoid helmet, which will give you some special powers -- but that will be revealed a little later.

Not only that, but Destructoid is also a PLAYABLE level! At some point during your quest in Retro City Rampage, you will have to find Jonathan Holmes to get a special item. The quest is simple enough -- that is, until Dr. Von Buttnick steals the special item and goes on a city-wide rampage in the giant Destructoid robot!

Boom! Happy birthday, Destructoid readers. We'll have more on the Destructoid quest in Retro City Rampage soon. Until then, check out both of the videos featuring the Destructoid appearances.

Demand to have a fart in a jar added to Saints
Row 3

Demand to have a fart in a jar added to Saints Row 3 screenshot

A while ago, we posted details about Saints Row: The Third's censoring process, in which Volition revealed that it had decided against using a particularly unique weapon. That weapon was the FART IN A JAR, which would be wielded like a grenade and would cause victims to vomit uncontrollably.

Obviously, the censorship of this weapon goes against everything Saints Row stands for, and offends the souls of good boys and girls who grew up believing in America. Fortunately, Volition has heard the cries of the jaded, and is offering fans a deal -- kick up enough of a stink, and the jarred farts will make their way to Saints Row: The Third

All you have to do is reply to the @SaintsRow Twitter account, registering your interest in the gaseous grenade and making sure to use the #fartinajar tag. If we cry out with gusto and conviction, we may well see justice served.

Obviously this is the most important cause ever, so don't delay!

Talking Child of Eden with Keith Apicary

video details and more

I played Child of Eden with Kinect last year at TGS. I wasn't into it. I played it again last weekend at PAX East. Now I'm into it.

The game's developers changed a lot of things between TGS and PAX East. For one, the clap move is no gone, which makes the game less of a motion controlled experience, and more about straight up pointing. More importantly, they really cut down the lag, and increased how accurately the game detects where you're trying to shoot. I'm still not sure I'd rather play the game with Kinect over a standard controller or the Playstation Move, but I can now wholeheartedly recommend the game to people who are already like the idea of playing the game with Microsoft's wonder camera.

Though it's a lot harder to confuse the Kinect than they used to be, it's still possible to trip the thing up. Flashing lights, microphones, and sudden appearances of hilarious human beings seem to make Kinect really sad. I learned that for myself when the one and only Keith Apicary (of Talking Classics fame) stormed the stage during my playthrough of the game.

Kieth, I'll never forget the times we've shared. Please never change.

Pico goes bananas over Super Monkey Ball 3D

Recently, Sega invited us to hang around its offices to get a sneak preview of the upcoming Super Monkey Ball 3D for the Nintendo 3DS. We went bananas when we got our hands on this fun arcade platform game, which will release at the end of March along with Nintendo's new handheld.

Super Monkey Ball 3DS (3DS)
Developer: Dimps
Publisher: Sega
Release date: March 25, 2011 (Europe); March 27, 2011 (North America)

Like other titles in the series, Super Money Ball 3D involves the same cheeky characters you love twisting through various courses, collecting bananas from within an orb. Besides having a full game with 80 levels in 3D running at sixty frames per second, there are also two multi-player modes, "Monkey Fight" and "Monkey Race."

Super Monkey Ball 3D doesn't vary much from the formula of its predecessors. You play as a monkey in a ball, trying to avoid obstacles as you collect bananas. The multiplayer modes closely resemble Super Mario Kart and even Super Smash Bros Brawl… just with more poo bananas.

The 3D capability does give this game a new and unique perspective, and favors this title more than other games I have had played on the Nintendo 3DS. Each of the modes are fun, and might even hold up as stand alone games. If you are a fan of the Monkey Ball series, this is one to keep an eye on when the 3DS launches later this month.
