EVE Online is a pretty unique game. It and its unified, always-on player base manage to do things in their gameworld that few MMOs, nay, few games barely conceive. It's intimidating as all hell, but damn if it isn't fascinating. Just like their latest way of helping Japan out in the wake of the massive earthquake.
Rather than asking their players to donate boring-ol' money through external sources, developer CCP Games has found a way to take advantage of EVE's fully-fledged in-game economy, by accepting donations of PLEX, the real-world value of which is converted into cash and donated to the Red Cross.
"What's PLEX", you ask? Standing for "Pilot License EXtension" it's basically an in-game item that can be redeemed for game time. The fun part about PLEX is that it can be bought with ISK, EVE's in-game currency. Thus, players that earn a lot of ISK through their in-game businesses and activities can effectively pay for their subscriptions by playing the game itself.
Which basically means that pilots making mad bank in virtual space can use said bank to help people in the real world. It's gamification at its best.
So, EVE players, if you have some ISK to spare, check out this page to get more details on the process.

After years of waiting, I finally got to play Fez at PAX East last weekend. Good lord, this game is intense. It makes you feel like you are actively being cuddled by a giant, one-eyed kitten. It's weird, you don't know exactly what's going on or what it's going to do, but God damn it, you can't help but love it.
Along with Sword and Sworocery (video preview pending for next week), I don't think I've played a pixel-based game that game me this stong of a sense of place since... Super Metroid maybe? Yeah, I know it's strong talk, but everything about Fez, from the graphics to the music to characters to the perspective-mending gameplay hook, all just make you want to explore every inch of this world.
Also, did you know that Paul Robertson (of Scott Pilgrim and Pirate Cabana fame) did the animation for Fez?
Commence freaking out!

I don't know how many times I've heard that a new fighter is "for fighting game fans, by fighting game fans". With Skullgirls, that claim might actually be true. The game takes the tag-team insanity of Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, the bizarre and beautiful imagination of the Darkstalkers series, the HD, hand drawn artwork of BlazBlue, and the east-meets-west flavor of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World: The Game and combines it with innovative gameplay elements that could only have been devised by a team that truly cares about fighting games. This is the first fighting game I've ever played that has built in combo-breakers that work against ANY infinity combo. If only the developers of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 had that level of foresight.
Oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the game's boobs. They're really... different. It's hard to describe in words, but somehow Skullgirls's artists managed to make a game with big, bouncing boobs that doesn't feel overly sexual. Instead, the boobs here seem to be a tribute to boobs as an idea.
I told you it was hard to describe in words. Just watch the video and see for yourself.

Prepare yourself for the American commercial for Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition! Continuing the tradition of Street Fighter IV being associated with awesome music, this commercial features hot rhymes fresh from the oven, care of a Capcom Community member by the name of Redrapper. It's pretty awesome how Capcom reaches out to fans like this, don't you think?
Oh, and the rest of the commercial is pretty nifty as well, I suppose.
