Live Show: Backlog coming at you in 3D (Dot Game
Heroes)

Live Show: Backlog coming at you in 3D (Dot Game Heroes) screenshot

[Backlog is the ongoing quest to rid Conrad Zimmerman's collection of unfinished games. As voted on by the Destructoid community, Conrad plays each game from start to finish live on Destructoid's Twitch.tv channel every weeknight at 8pm Pacific]

After a delightful and relaxing weekend, it's time to resume our quest to save the kingdom of Dotnia from the perils of an increasingly powerful dark orb. We're playing 3D Dot Game Heroes on Backlog and having a delightful time doing so. Last week, Bizn355 supplied me with a character based on me and we played with it on the show Friday night. But he also made one where my mustache is a bit more prominent and we'll check that out tonight.

I'm streaming my gameplay live right now and hanging out with the chat goons. Come and join us over on Destructoid's Twitch.tv channel!

Here's what Sony's Eight Days looked like in
action

Here's what Sony's Eight Days looked like in action screenshot

video details and more

The last time we really saw anything of SCE London's Eight Days was in 2006 with a trailer. Last week heard really heard about it, the game was "on hold," potentially even canned completely.

Whether or not we'll ever see the game in a final shipped state is unknown, but some leaked footage at least gives us an idea of what we could have expected. Alleged pre-production footage of the game has appeared on YouTube, and shows off a third-person shooter that relies heavily on cover and said cover getting blown to bits.

It looks okay, if not a bit generic. But as a fan of third-person action, I wouldn't mind playing something like Eight Days on my PlayStation 3. Maybe something in the jungle, or say, a desert. With a handsome, witty treasure hunter or something. One can dream.

NEWS - Let's be honest:  Any one of us could use five million dollars.  You could pay off your debts, buy your dream home, travel the world...and it can all be thanks to playing video games.  Riot Games has surprised a lot of members of the gaming industry by announcing a five million dollar prize pool for the upcoming League of Legends Season Two.  While professional gaming is a pipe dream for most of us, seeing an amount of money like that is going to draw attention from just about anyone who wants a piece of it.

Conan moves to F2P; amasses 300,000 new players
in one month.

by: Sean Cahill
NEWS - When you make the jump from a monthly subscription to free to play, you expect to see a little bit of a jump in activity.  Age of Conan certainly received that boost in the form of 300,000 new players in the first month of free to play status, ultimately resulting in activity on their servers quadrupling.  It's tough to gauge what kind of success truly results from this, considering that the game now is free to download and play for anyone, but you cannot argue that it has brought plenty of attention to the game.  Hopefully they have plenty of moderators and admins handy, because they'll be working overtime for awhile!

Tropico 4 release dates announced

Tropico 4 release dates announced screenshot

When Tropico 4 was announced, no specific release date was given, but a promise of 2011 was made, and is now being fulfilled. Those looking to fill the role of El Presidente on the PC can start their  dictatorship on August 26, while Xbox 360 rulers will have to wait until mid-September.

I have never played Tropico, but from what I hear, it is a good time. I'm not great at strategy games, but the idea of controlling a country appeals to me. It seems like there is also going to be quite a bit of political intrigue and maneuvering, which is fun. One addition to the game that I personally like is the ability to put allies in office in order to make passing unpopular acts into law.

New Street Fighter X Tekken trailer tackles tag
teams

New Street Fighter X Tekken trailer tackles tag teams screenshot

GamesCom kicks off in Cologne, Germany later this week, but Capcom's already got a nice helping of Street Fighter X Tekken goodness for you. The four minute trailer shows off the game's tag team combat, specifically the way partners can interact mid-fight. It looks like standard tag team fighting fare, but with that Street Fighter flair.

The last little bit of the trailer confirms four previously teased characters (as if we can't identify those silhouettes) for the fighter. Hugo, Raven, Ibuki, and Kuma the bear have all been added to the crossover fun. Seriously, it's Kuma; that's all I need.
