Dantes Inferno Divine Edition exclusive to PS3

by: Dan Keener
NEWS - With exclusives for specific consoles becoming scarcer by the year due to costs, we are now getting more and more timed exclusives or exclusive versions/episodes to differentiate between the console versions. The latest to join that club is EA’s Dante’s Inferno, which will be getting a “Divine Edition” specifically for the PlayStation 3. Last week, it was announced that the game would get a two-week head start on the demo on PSN vs. Xbox Live, and now we find out that the PS3 versions is getting a few goodies for free.

The "divine" in this edition adds developer commentaries, a digital art book, game soundtrack and a digital Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno, included in the standard $59.99 price. So in essence, this is a collector’s edition for the price of a standard edition. But what it doesn’t have (and most gamers would prefer over throw-in stuff) is any exclusive gameplay levels or options.

Ten Minute Taste: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Ten Minute Taste: Silent Hill: Shattered Memories screenshot

So, Silent Hill made its way to the Wii. Let that echo in your ears for a bit. But no worries, it's actually really good. Look out for our full review later today.

For now, here's our Ten Minute Taste of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. You'll see the creepy opening and the psychological profiling that the game puts you through. Pay no attention to my answers! They were just for fun, I promise. I'm no adulterer. The one about role-playing during sex? Use your imagination.

You'll hear Harry's perverted comments, which are a result of how I answered my psychological profile. Different answers create a different game world.

In this video, you'll get just a small taste of what Silent Hill looks like in a snow storm, illuminated only by a flashlight. Oh, and that flashlight has amazing batteries, turns out. I'm on my second play-through and they haven't died yet!

Nom nom: Edible Nintendo Points Cards are in the
house

Nom nom: Edible Nintendo Points Cards are in the house screenshot

A surprising but tasty package arrived from Nintendo today -- a box of three cookies designed to look like Nintendo Points Cards. (No, they're not redeemable for points, but totally edible.)

The idea here is that Nintendo is saying that for over thee years, "people have been enjoying the delicious downloadable offerings on Nintendo systems." That, somehow, translates to delicious cookies. It also offers directions for "Nintendo's Recipe for Holiday Joy":

  • 2 1/4 c flour
  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 broadband Internet connection
  • 1/2 tsp downloadable games
  • 1 Wii (or Nintendo DSi)

It's unclear what I'm supposed to do with the flower, sugar, and eggs once I bring them to my Wii. I dumped them all over my Wii and nothing happened. Well, at least now I don't have to leave for lunch, but someone needs to come figure out why my Wii is making that horrible noise.

Guardian: PS3 is a 'disappointment for gamers'

Guardian: PS3 is a 'disappointment for gamers' screenshot

The Guardian has put the big four gaming platforms through their paces, giving helpful tips to the British consumer who is looking for some electronic entertainment this Christmas. The game weighs the relative pros and cons of each gaming system, and while it seems to find good and bad points about the Wii, Xbox 360 and PC, the paper has nothing but damning words for Sony's "disappointing" Black Box o' Blu-ray.

Of the Wii, the Guardian states that it's a "perfect introduction to videogames" but that the graphics "aren't as pretty" as other systems and that groundbreaking Wii games only come along infrequently. The Xbox 360 allegedly has the "best games portfolio" and the only bad point is the "useless" Arcade model. When talking about the PC and Mac, the paper only focuses on the obvious 3D graphics card requirement and states that most publishers ignore the Mac.

The real star of the show is the Guardian's assessment of the PlayStation 3: "Whereas the PlayStation 2 once dominated its rivals, the PS3 is a disappointment for gamers. Former PlayStation exclusives such as Tomb Raider and Grand Theft Auto are now available for rival consoles from the day of release and, at £250, PS3 is still too pricey. An attractive purchase only for those with an obsession with the PlayStation brand."

Ouch. Pretty brutal summary, especially in a year that saw quite a few hot PS3 exclusives. What do you think? Is the PS3 truly something that only "obsessive" PlayStation fans need, or is the paper being unfairly harsh? Let your opinion be known!
