Shantae: Risky's Revenge coming to an iDevice
near you

Shantae: Risky's Revenge coming to an iDevice near you screenshot

Shantae is good. Like, really good. And the sequel, Risky's Revenge, is also really good -- the best game on DSiWare, in fact. The original game never achieved the big sales it deserved, coming out for the Game Boy Color when the Game Boy Advance was already on the market. Thankfully, WayForward is taking steps to ensure that history doesn't repeat itself.

Today, WayForward announced that Risky's Revenge will be coming to all iOS devices in the coming weeks. Rather than being a straight port, this version has been tinkered with for a full year in order to optimize it for touch-only controls. Enemy AI has been tweaked, platforms have been widened, menus have been redone, and more. There are even achievements to shoot for this time around!

Fans who played the DSi release may not necessarily find a lot new to satisfy them, but at least now our loveable, sprightly half-genie will be able to reach an even wider audience. Who has yet to play this wonderful gem, and who is gonna jump on board with the iOS release?

You can play Minecraft's 'Adventure Update' early

You can play Minecraft's 'Adventure Update' early screenshot

The horror! Minecraft 1.8 has been leaked! Well, not exactly. Mojang decided to release the new version early for those willing to manually download a file and put it in the right place. Pretty easy stuff, and guess what? 1.8 is magnificent.

Said file can be found here. Windows users need only move it into %appdata%/.minecraft/bin and replace the current minecraft.jar file. Note: you'll need an existing Minecraft account and to have the game downloaded already in order for that folder to exist. Sorry, moochers!

Guess that takes care of plans for this weekend, huh?

[Thanks, OmnipotentBagel and everyone else who sent this in]

Fan-made Amigo figure to celebrate Dreamcast's US
release

Fan-made Amigo figure to celebrate Dreamcast's US release screenshot

Twelve years ago today, the Sega Dreamcast was released here the States. That one just slipped right by us! Sure, it's not the Dreamcast's true birthday -- that would be November 27 -- but at least we should have cut up some cake or something.

Custom toy maker Albert Art, who has been showcased on several occasions over at our sister site Tomopop, has thankfully commemorated this momentous event by crafting a tiny Amigo from cult classic Samba de Amigo. Using a MAD blank canvas figure as a base, Albert has lovingly recreated our simian compadre down to the tiniest detail and topped it off with a comically oversized sombrero!

Head on over to his blog to check out more glamor shots, and feel free to profess your undying love for Sega's great white martyr in the comments below.

Age of Conan - The Savage Coast of Turan goes
live

Age of Conan - The Savage Coast of Turan goes live screenshot

Sweaty men, loincloths, busty wenches and lots of blood. Age of Conan: Unchained has something for everyone. Now it has something for fans of the latest movie.  The Savage Coast of Turan is a premium adventure pack which whisks players off to Turan, essentially Persia of the Hyborian Age. Expect to meet and fight characters and monsters from the most recent addition to the franchise while exploring several new regions and uncovering a variety of new dungeons.

If you aren't a fan of the movie (and let's face it, there's a good chance you aren't) the adventure pack also has content based on Robert E. Howard's storylines. So the Conan purists certainly aren't being ignored. It's available for both premium and free players, but you will have to purchase it from the in-game store. It's 1300 Funcom Points, which amounts to about $10.

I was one of the game's early adopters, but the lack of end game content made it tough to stick around. The f2p model has certainly tempted me to return and I'm happy to see that Funcom aren't leaving free players out when it comes to new adventure packs. It might be time to get back to rescuing damsels and asking folk if they have let Crom into their lives.

That pesky DRM in From Dust has finally been
removed

That pesky DRM in From Dust has finally been removed screenshot

Keeping good on their word from two weeks ago, Ubisoft has finally removed the DRM that plagued the PC owners of From Dust. If you have an unreliable internet connection or you're not around a WiFi Hotspot, you will now be able to finally play offline. Seems a bit late as this is not really that big of a deal anymore, but I guess it's the point of the matter.

The update doesn't fix the myriad of issues that people were having, such as game-crashing bugs, numerous glitches, spotty video card support, terrible controls, a 30 FPS limit and a lack of various standard graphics options. But hey, you get to play offline so that's good news, right?

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units

Deus Ex: Human Revolution ships 2 million units screenshot

Adam Jensen, the brooding, sunglasses loving, augmented bad ass from Deus Ex: Human Revolution is probably doing a little dance right now. Eidos-Montreal's first game, which came out late last month, shipped 2 million units in North America, Europe and PAL territories.

That's not too shabby, but since it's a prequel to one of the most beloved PC games of all time it's hardly a surprise. It helps that it was pretty damn good to boot. If you haven't had enough cyberpunk action don't fret. The recently announced DLC, Missing Link, will be available next month.

Machinarium for iPad on app store, relieves
constipation

Machinarium for iPad on app store, relieves constipation screenshot

Charming indie adventure game, Machinarium, has expanded its robotic reach and is now available on the app store for iPad owners.

The developers, Amanita Design, made a new trailer in honor of this occasion. The game appears to relieve constipation and make men in hats dance. This must be a new feature, as it certainly didn't do that on the PC version. It must be a portable thing.

It also reveals another helpful aspect of the iPad, you can use it to rest beverages on. What will they think of next?

Early access to City of Heroes Freedom for
subscribers

Early access to City of Heroes Freedom for subscribers screenshot

It seems like we're never too far away from an established MMO going free to play. Just like Star Trek Online, long-running NCsoft title City of Heroes will be going free soon and the developers have announced some benefits for established players to put their minds at ease during the transition to the free-to-play version, City of Heroes Freedom.

For starters, all active subscribers will be bumped up to VIP status and have access to the new version on September 13, weeks before new players. There's also new trial areas and "live invasions" to fend off by the forces of Praetoria and Hamidon. If showing off your spandex costume is more your style, then VIP accounts will also be able to participate in some costume contests.

Of course, there will be a new shop service for you to spend your hard-earned money and VIP accounts get one last sweetener: as of July, they have been earning Paragon points as part of their current subscription. If you're a lapsed City of Heroes player, then reactivate your account to get upgraded to VIP status by the 13th or you'll miss out.
