Dantes Inferno launches today with a new
developers diary

by: Tina Amini
NEWS - For Dante’s Inferno’s launch date, EA and Visceral invite you to the 9th circle where hell is frozen over.

The developer’s diary also touches on some of the criticism the game has been getting over “desecrating” the original poem. You can hear some of their refutations of such claims and the reasoning behind their defense in the video below.

Happy launch date. Who plans on picking up the game?

NaturalMotion guys explain Backbreaker in
developer diary

NaturalMotion guys explain Backbreaker in developer diary screenshot

In case you're unfamiliar with Backbreaker, a bunch of folks from the game's developer, NaturalMotion, are here to tell you all about it. The video above is a three-and-a-half-minute developer diary in which they explain why Backbreaker is unique -- not just among football videogames, but all sports games. The studio's Euphoria engine (which you saw in games like Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed) is responsible for Backbreaker's realistic football action.

Another key idea in the game's design was to create a pick-up-and-play experience. Having played the game myself, I can tell you that the controls are, indeed, intuitive. If this looks like your idea of a good time, you've only got to wait until May, when Backbreaker hits stores on the PS3 and 360.

Nintendo Fines New Super Mario Bros. Wii Uploader
$1.5 Million

Nintendo of Australia fines Australian $1.5 million for NSMB Wii upload

Nintendo of Australia has announced that as a result of a federal court settlement, an Australian will be required to pay $1.5 million ($1.3 million USD) to Nintendo for revenue loss after uploading New Super Mario Bros. Wii to the Internet.

The Australian was allegedly the first person to upload New Super Mario Bros. Wii to the Internet on November 6, 2009, one week prior to the game's official release date.

As a result of the Australian's NSBM Wii upload, hackers were able to create level editors for the game. Nintendo's larger issue, however, was that the upload facilitated piracy of the game.

"Upon the game being uploaded to the Internet, Nintendo was able to employ the use of sophisticated technological forensics to identify the individual responsible for illegally copying the file and making it available for further distribution," Nintendo said in a press release.

"On 23 November, 2009, Nintendo obtained a Federal Court search order in respect of the individual's residential premises. This led to the seizure of property from those premises in order to gain further evidence against the individual."
