Regardless of how big a fan of TRON you were back in the 80?s, it would be pretty hard to get excited about a game of light cycles in 2011, wouldn?t it? But what if I told you that game of light cycles was the ultimate game of light cycles, complete with a six-pack of modes, a thumping soundtrack, and a boat load of personality and charm? That?s Hard Lines in a nutshell.

It's about damn time, no?
As far as many folks are concerned, online multiplayer gaming might as well not exist on the Wii, since its needlessly convoluted Friend Code system -- designed with the intent to keep kids safe from the perils of Internet denizens -- makes life so much more difficult than the username-based setup on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Apparently, Nintendo has heard the hardcore's cries, and for the Wii U, is replacing Friend Codes with system that supports one specific username for each person, instead of a sixteen-digit numeric sequence for each console and a separate twelve-digit number for each game.
The news comes from a demo of the Wii U version of Ghost Recon Online that Ubisoft gave to MTV Multiplayer, who pressed producer Adrian Blunt for multiplayer details. "Rather than a machine having an account, each individual user has an account," he explained, saying that the system is "exactly" equivalent to, say, Gamertags on Xbox Live. Blunt also said that the Wii U offers "a much easier way" to connect players than Friend Codes. But he didn't confirm whether the Wii U also features a console-wide system resembling Achievements/Trophies, saying, "I... can't answer that at the moment."
I'll take that for now, though. The Wii U's online infrastructure remains a major question mark standing in the way of the console's adoption among core gamers, so this is certainly very encouraging news.

At Nintendo's developer roundtable this evening, Ubisoft announced a new game for Wii U by the name of Killer Freaks From Outer Space, currently scheduled for 2012. I know what you're thinking based on the name, but it actually seems potentially cool, at least in terms of subject matter.
Earth has been invaded by flesh-eating freaks, so it's up to you to stop them, obviously. Nick was at the event, and described Killer Freaks as looking dark visually but having a silly vibe -- like a PG-13 horror movie that almost goes too far.
Since it is the Wii U, the gyroscope and accelerometer in the new controller are used. So, your on-screen gun responds to controller movement, etc. Check out the official website for the first screenshots and a teaser trailer. Consider me pleasantly surprised.

Tonight at a roundtable, developer Ubisoft confirmed that an Assassin's Creed game for Wii U is in the works.
From the sounds of things, the title is way early in development, with only some concepts being kicked around. Uses for the controller's screen could include a persistent on-screen map, an interactive database, fast weapon selection, alternate reality puzzles, and Eagle Vision/Sense on the touch screen.
In terms of visuals, Ubisoft says it can leverage the Wii U's power to fully utilize their current Assassin's Creed Anvil Engine. This means full support for its graphic shaders system, as well as all of the assets they currently use for the franchise.
Being so early in development, they're not ready to give any more details on the project, including whether it will be a new title or a port of an existing entry into the franchise. As we get closer to the Wii U's 2012 release, however, I'm sure we'll hear more.
