Madden simulation gives insight as to who will be
on top for upcoming NFL season.

NEWS - I've never been a big fan of speculation and predictions, but if you're going to make either of these, you might as well have a computer do it for you.  EA Sports decided to run through an entire season simulation on Madden NFL 12 to determine who would be on top, both team-wise as well as award wise.  It seems as though the Packers and Steelers continue to be the top teams in their respected conferences, while Michael Vick, Quarterback for Philadelphia, would take home the MVP of the league.  To take a look at the rest of the statistics, take a look at the press release attached!

EA Sports and NCAA enter partnership to educate
ex-players.

NEWS - You may have heard through news postings that a few attempts have been made to sue EA Sports, the makers of the series NCAA Football, mainly because of the fact that player likenesses are used and the players themselves cannot collect money due to NCAA regulations.  EA and the NCAA announced a new fellowship to help educate players about the games industry as well as how the actual business side of sports works.  While this is a very, very minor bone to throw out (it only covers two post-graduate ex-players) in an attempt to show how things work in the industry, it is at least a step forward in helping them understand why the industry takes the steps that they do.

Last night on Backlog we brought to an end the machinations of a hatter gone far round the bend. Now Alice must traverse a fiery path to the Jabberwock's lair, take its eye and finish the weapon destined to destroy the Red Queen. No pressure or anything, but that Jabberwock is supposed to be downright nasty. I am prepared to die.

Japan getting MW3 and Uncharted 3-themed
DualShock 3s

Is it true things always come in three's? Well in this case, no. But Sony appears to be going for a theme of three with their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Uncharted 3 DualShock 3 controllers. A couple days ago Sony showed off the new DualShock 3 controllers that would be celebrating the release of these hotly anticipated games. So far these appear to be a Japanese exclusive.

Now, I wasn't able to see the Modern Warfare 3 one, presumably because it was covered in camo and that made it blend in so well. The Uncharted 3 controller didn't exactly remind me of Uncharted at all. If anything I was getting a Lord of the Rings feel from the hand-drawn mountains and gold ring on the surface of the controller. If you're just dieing to get your hands on these, the PS3 isn't region locked so you could always import these bad boys this November and they should still be able to work.

Super Hero Squad Online gets expansion and new
trailer

The disturbingly cute Marvel MMO -- Super Hero Squad Online, which came out in May, is fooling around with the dark side in its new expansion. Villainville gives players the opportunity to take on the role of some of the naughtier, but still adorable, characters. Dark Surfer, Red Hulk, Iron Patriot and Red She-Hulk will all be available to perform "evil" deeds and generally get up to mischief.

The expansion provides a new city to explore, but more importantly, to beat people up in. When players are sick of all the cartoon violence they can participate in a spot of card collecting. Build up your deck and fight your friends, they probably deserve it.

If you decide to venture down into the city of Villainville's sewers, more than likely a popular tourist attraction, feel free to pop over to Doctor Doom's secret lair for a chat. Why is he living in a sewer? Because he's a hideous freak, that's why. Everyone's favorite floating monstrosity, MODOK, will also be available for a round of beat up the villain. Abomination, the one that looks like a cross between Hulk and the Kraken, has also been revealed as a boss. He's hideous, so he really does deserve to be smashed into oblivion.

The MMO remains free to play, so even if you are a cynical adult you may find it worth a couple of hours of your time. Or just use it to distract your children.

Nerdcore rapper Random drops a fresh Forever
Famicom EP

I will put my foot down and proclaim that nerdcore artist Random, a.k.a. Mega Ran, is the best geek music act out there, bar none. Whereas many other musicians in nerd culture have very little substance beyond the their own gimmicks, Random has been able to marry real hip-hop and his love for videogames in a fashion that is greater than the sum of its parts. Geeks love him, rap aficionados love him, and even those who claim to despise rap love him.

Last June, Random teamed up with producer K-Murdock to bring us Forever Famicom. The album, which sampled several NES and SNES games, deftly alternated between silly game character roleplay and inspirational stories from Ran's childhood and life on tour. The following month, he released a "DLC" pack containing a few more songs plus instrumentals of the main album tracks.

Now, he has released Forever Famicom DLC 2, a second companion EP containing seven new songs that sample Donkey Kong Country 2, Bad Dudes, Super Metroid, and more. One of my faves on the album is "The Ruler's Back," which sample Edgar's theme from Final Fantasy VI, and which I was fortunate enough to hear performed live at Nerdapalooza 2011. All the tracks can be previewed at the Bandcamp link below, and where you can spend $5 to download the whole shebang or $12.99 to obtain a CD that also includes instrumentals and will ship out sometime around October 31.

More game than throne in A Game of Thrones -

I can't really say I'm too familiar with the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I haven't read the books, nor have I watched the HBO series. I've heard a lot of buzz about the whole series recently though, and with the growing popularity, a game was sure to follow.

Enter A Game of Thrones - Genesis, a strategy game set in the world created by George R.R. Martin. A batch of images were released showing off more game than thrones, with only one image actually having a throne in it. The game -- releasing on PC in retail and digital stores on September 29 -- does at least look good graphically

This title will feature a single-player campaign written with the guidance of author Martin himself, as well as multiplayer for up to eight people. What intrigues me is that in addition to the usual paths of economic and open warfare, players will also be able to utilize "dirty tricks and diplomacy to politically crush" their opponents. It's even boasted that you could earn victory without ever recruiting an army.

Crimson: Steam Pirates is an action strategy game from Harebrained Schemes and Bungie Aerospace for the iPad. You are a swashbuckling pirate sailing the high seas in this nautical adventure. Using all of your shipmates, you?ll need to take down the British Empire with cannons and boarding missions. While out at sea, things can get unruly quickly but luckily you will have Gamezebo?s quick start guide to navigate you to victory as you claim the waters as your own.
