Another week, another Nintendo downloads list

by: Tina Amini
NEWS - It’s that time of week again! Nintendo downloads reveal day.

Nintendo is offering the usual batch of a mix of puzzles, adventure games, non-game games, and the old school games.

Out of the 11 new titles being offered this week, the WiiWare holds four of them. If you’re a Wii owner, you can get your puzzle fix with MAGNETIS. Train dolphins with My Dolphin, teaching them tricks to put on at shows. Flowerworks is the Wii’s adventure game, where you play as Follie who gets shipwrecked on a mysterious planet. Finally, Nintendo suggests some stress relief with Stop Stress: A Day of Fury. Fight past your nightmares as the protagonist Jack, and help him beat his way through the obstacles.

The DSi has a slew of downloads on their Ware, as well. Ball Fighter is their equivalent of a puzzle for the DSi. You can also download Rayman, Pop Island, and ARMY DEFENDER. Rayman follows the humble adventure quest of Rayman as he tries to save the world. Pop Island is a capture-the-flag game full of multiplayer potential. ARMY DEFENDER is the DSi’s action shooter for the week full of tanks, helicopters, bombers, you name it. Lastly, for the non-game game category, the DSi is offering another myNotebook game, myNotebook: Red.

The old school on the Virtual Console for this week is Street Fighter Alpha 2, and Shinobi. Street Fighter Alpha 2 coming from the SNES contains Quick Move Reversals and Alpha Counters. Shinobi is an old school arcade game from the SEGA days where you play as Joe Musashi on the hunt to save kidnapped children.

With the next holidays around the corner, perhaps the downloads list will give you some ideas for gifts. Read on for the full details including pricing and a more in-depth description of the games than I just spouted.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope International screens
and info blowout

by: Marissa Meli
NEWS - Squeenix is bringing Star Ocean: The Last Hope International to your PS3 on February 9, 2010. To give you a little taste, they've released a mess of screenshots for us to share with you.

I look forward (and I know you do to) to this unique RPG experience with improved four-person combat and the ability to travel around space. If you already have the 360 version, you'll be happy to know that there will be new content exclusive to the International version. Besides Japanese and English voice tracks (thank you so much for giving us both options), there are English, Japanese, Italian, German, French, and Spanish language options.  Truly an international affair, which is interesting considering the game takes place after Earth is practically destroyed by World War III.

Team Fortress 2 update reveals new Friendshp mode

Team Fortress 2 update reveals new Friendshp mode? screenshot

video details and more

Team Fortress 2 received an update on Monday and some hidden sound files were unearthed to reveal a potential new mode coming to the game. The sound files has the Announcer referring to the Team Fortress warriors seemingly friending one another in order to take down the Announcer in the new game type.

Blue and Red coming together for the common good?! Unheard of! Whatever this new game mode could be, it sounds pretty exciting ... if it actually comes out. We can't say for sure until Valve spills the beans on what this is all about.

So who's excited at the possibilities of this new mode?

[Thanks, power-glove!]

More holiday themed Scribblenauts wallpaper plus
a PR poem

by: Chad Smith
NEWS - Scribblenauts continues to show some TLC to fans.  Not too long ago we posted some Halloween themed wallpaper from the game.  Since we're well past that holiday, they've decided to grace us with a Christmas themed art.  We've got three sizes to tickle your fancy.

But wait, there's more!  They even included a poem in the press release for your enjoyment.  Enjoy!

‘Twas a cold day in December, when all through the ‘net,
No creature was stirring, not even a keyboard cat;
And gamers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Scribblenauts danced in their heads;
Maxwell sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle;
His stylus, how it twinkled! His Rooster Hat, how merry!
And we heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
“Happy Holidays to all, and to all a shiny Starite!”
