NEWS - I'm still not sure what to make of Red Faction:Armageddon as the game has such a different vibe than Red Faction:Guerilla (which I loved). Instead of wide open expanses with destructible terrain we're now going to have underground caves with destructible terrain. That said the new trailer for the game does inspire a bit of confidence in the new direction that Volition is taking with the franchise.

Meet Sam B, one of Dead Island's

NEWS - Deep Silver has released some new screenshots that feature Sam B, one of the characters in Dead Island. He's described as a washed up, one hit wonder rapper (so think a gangster version of Young MC). The screens do look pretty good but still don't live to all of the promise created by the first trailer for the game. The screenshots also have a very tropical Left 4 Dead feel to them. I'm trying not to judge the game before seeing it in person but it's hard not to given the fuss created by that first trailer.

The first big news out of this year's Captivate (Capcom's big yearly press event) is the official announcement of Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition as DLC for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. From the looks of this trailer, the game's storyline will center around Evil Ryu, and a new character called Oni. Evil Ryu also has long hair sometimes, which is awesome.

The video also details some of the other features that will go into SSFIV:AE on home consoles. Yun and Yang (last seen in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike), new outfits, a new replay system, a new "Elite" replay video viewing system, and some other cool stuff are all part of the package. No price has been announced, but I'm guessing that with all this new content, we're looking at $15 at least.

Now we just need this content to come to Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, turning it into Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition Arcade Edition, and making it the longest name in Street Fighter history. Sorry Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, your time may be numbered.

Minecraft creator Notch has posted on his blog that the game will, if all goes according to plan, officially "release" on November 11 of this year. He notes that "the version we deem as the 'full version' won’t be very different at all from what the game was like a week ago ..." So, think of it as a morale booster.

"We’ll keep adding features after the release as well, so it’s really more of a milestone when we finally get rid of the Beta label, and some kind of goal for us to work towards," he writes. "It’s the same date as a few other games and movies, and the one I’m the most excited about is Skyrim, so that will be a nice reward for me if we actually manage to hit that date!"

As for the achievements- and statistics-introducing 1.5 update, release next week is looking likely. Bonus: it'll add weather effects, including things like periodic rain/snow fall, ice regrowing in colder biomes, and even thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms and creepers -- potentially at the same time. Shut. Down. EVERYTHING.
