The Batman: Arkham City OST has been announced and will feature scores from artists including Panic! At the Disco, Daughtry, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Coheed and Cambria to name just a few. The soundtrack will be out October 4th, two weeks before the game. If you are getting the collectors edition of Arkham City, a download code for the soundtrack will automatically be included.
I'm not really into music, I don't own that many soundtracks, but if I enjoy the music from a game, movie or show enough I have no problem paying money for some sweet tunes. Sadly I don't listen to much contemporary music either so while I am familiar with some of these artists, I don't love any of them. Guess I will have to wait and give the songs a listen to determine if I buy the OST based on quality, not name.

Some of you may be curious as how Sdatcher's coming along since we first reported on it, and apparently it has begun. The first episode of this collaborative project between Suda 51, Hideo Kojima and Akira Yamaoka is now available for download. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese. Maybe someday we'll get an English version, though. If somehow you understand Japanese and will be at the Tokyo Game Show, you may have a chance to buy some swag on top.
You know the cruelest part of this? I HAD a Sega CD and I never got my hands on a copy of Snatcher. Instead I had the FMV Mighty Morphin Power Rangers game. God. Damn. It.

If you're an Android owner like myself, chances are you're probably more than a little envious of all the great games that wind up on the App Store. Luckily, every so often one of those titles makes its way over to the Droid Market and helps makes life on the Wild West of mobile devices a little more bearable. Such is the case this week with Space Invaders: Infinity Gene.
It's taken two years but Taito's latest shooter is finally making its way onto Android devices. Infinity Gene isn't only a brilliant reimagining of a classic series, but is absolutely stunning and features a fantastic chiptune soundtrack. Android-owning shmup fans that have yet to play the game on iOS or the HD console version are in for a real treat.
Space Invaders: Infinity Gene is landing on Android devices tomorrow for $4.99.

Have you ever wandered into GameStop and wept at the lack of Apple devices? Well, now you can dry your eyes. According to 9to5Mac, the retailer will be selling iPods, iPhones and iPads soon. This was revealed to attendees at a trade show in Las Vegas last week, where they announced that they were working on a deal with Apple.
GameStop has already started to accept trade-ins of iOS devices for in-store credit. So while you can't buy an iPhone there quite yet, you can certainly sell your old one. However, they have not revealed how much you can expect to make for the trade-in.
The plan to sell the devices alongside the gaming heavyweights means that they will be competing directly with Sony and Nintendo's handheld offerings. GameStop obviously sees the potential of Apple's products as serious gaming devices, which may encourage other retailers to follow suit, or at least take notice.
Apple has been expanding significantly, more than likely in preparation for the launch of the iPhone 5 in October. The company has been courting gamers for some time, it makes sense that, as it expands, it will continue to emphasize the gaming aspect of its devices.
Now we play the waiting game, will this move manage to tempt more people to view iOS devices as competent mobile gaming platforms?
GameStop to carry iOS devices soon... [9to5Mac]

Having recently stated that I enjoy platformers unafraid of kicking my ass, the small group responsible for action-platformer Oniken jumped on the opportunity to get me to play.
This free-to-download PC title is in beta right now, which is the version I tried. (The key word here is "tried.") On the official site, Oniken is described as being a tribute to the challenging 8-bit action game line-up of the NES, which is absolutely true. It feels like it fell out of the late eighties, except the controls were tightened up during the voyage.
They also describe the game as being "NES hard." These dudes aren't lying.
Available to play are three missions, none of which I have been able to complete yet. One time, I got close ... I think! Oniken has loads of visually interesting things out to kill you, and even though you have grenades and wield a mighty sword, you've always got to be prepared for what's immediately off-screen.
It doesn't quite reach Mega Man levels of memorization, but you likely aren't going to be successful on your first few attempts. When I got to the boss in the header image, I pretty much fumbled for fifteen seconds, not having a clue as to what I should be doing to avoid damage. About the only thing I could manage to remember during this time was how to breathe. It was awesome, and reminiscent of an overwhelming feeling that used to be the norm in gaming.
You already know if you're into this type of experience or not. As tough as it was, the difficulty is still fairly balanced for the genre. Feeling courageous? Give Oniken a download.

Those of you waiting on the remastered XBLA release of Guardian Heroes will have to wait a bit longer as the old Summer window has been tossed. Instead look for the game starting October 12th. Along with the delay announcment, Sega has a new trailer for the game, so there is that as well.
From what I've read this game was a great thing, and I should probably check out the 800 MS Point Xbox Live version this holiday season. I am intrigued by the branching story, but the co-op and extra modes sound fun too. What did you guys think, was the writing good or was it the fighting mechanic that has you excited for an Xbox release? What was your favorite aspect of Guardian Heroes?

It's not too late to get into Battlefield: Bad Company 2, even with Battlefield 3 on the horizon. Today through Monday, Xbox Live Gold members can grab a portion of the game's add-on content for half price.
If nothing else, you ought to download the Vietnam expansion. Flamethrowers are fun, in case you hadn't heard.

SEGA has had an interesting run of ads for its Kinect-based horror title, Rise of Nightmares. But this latest trailer for the game should be easily recognizable to everyone as the typical, "people are having fun playing this game" ad that we've seen over and over again. This one has text which claims things opposite of what we see. It's all very clever.
It did give me an idea, however. The combination of the horror theme and the frequency of adverts such as this one reminds me of something else. It's with that in mind that I'm working up a pitch for a new series of direct-to-video releases, Faces of Sweaty People. That sounds far more terrifying to me than a whole bunch of hoax footage and blurry autopsy reels. And it seems that game publishers are more than happy to create the content.
Their people can call my people. We'll do lunch.
