It

According to a WinRumors source, Microsoft engineers have been hard at work “for months” developing a Silverlight application which will allow Windows Phone developers to bring their applications to its home console. This news is made even more exciting for developers because they’ve already been coding apps using Silverlight tools. Microsoft had officially planned to [...]

Layton's first game goes platinum in Japan

Layton's first game goes platinum in Japan screenshot

We know the Layton series is a moneymaker -- the first four DS games have shipped over 11 million units globally. Nonetheless, every time one of the games hits a milestone, I feel like throwing a party.

Just this morning, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino tweeted that the original game, Curious Village, had crossed one million copies sold in Japan alone. Time to break out the good vintage.

There was no reason for me to post this other than that Layton is a badass. I apologize for nothing.

Real: Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker clothing line
for men

Real: Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker clothing line for men screenshot

This is not an April Fools' Day joke.

Konami is really announcing a men's clothing line based on game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Available for purchase online in US and Canada beginning on April 11, 2011, the collection will include coats, sweatshirts, pants, t-shirts and hats, all inspired by clothing worn by characters in the 2010 PSP game. Additional items in the clothing line will be released quarterly and surrounding certain special events throughout the year, Konami notes.

I would wear some of this. We poke fun at anything in our inbox that says "men's clothing line," but I bet this stuff will be pretty cool.

Japan disaster may delay the NGP

Japan disaster may delay the NGP screenshot

Because of the recent events in Japan, production of the NGP has been disrupted, forcing Sony to rethink its global launch strategy. Originally planned to be released in most major regions by the holidays, the NGP may now only appear in a single region (currently unspecified) by year's end.

In addition to causing a further drop in Sony stocks, this announcement means that the 3DS will have an even greater lead on the NGP. This could be a blessing in disguise, though. Sony can really work on making the NGP launch spectacular, especially in light of the mixed reception of the 3DS launch.

Celebrating 15 years of Resident Evil

by: Jeremy Duff
NEWS - Do you realize that the Resident Evil series has now been around for 15 years? I can still remember playing the original game for the first time in my friend's basement when I was a teenager and being blown away with the atmosphere created by the game. Even as highschollers, we were jumping out of our seats when the dogs crashed through the windows and the lights ended up staying on for the rest of the night.

In celebration of this historic occasion, Capcom has released an anniversary trailer for the series highlighting the series' past, present and future. Included in this new video, shown below, is our first look at the new, HD versions of Code Veronica and RE4. The series is certainly on a roll right now with five title announced in the pipeline(s) and potentially more on the way (Operaton Raccoon City, RE4 HD, Code Veronica X HD, The Mercenaries 3D, and Revelations).

Thank you Capcom for 15 great years with Resident Evil and I, for one, am looking forward to 15 more...

Shrug and sigh: Rock Band 3 is $19.99 now

Shrug and sigh: Rock Band 3 is $19.99 now screenshot

Imagine a game made solely of music you've never heard. Imagine a game where you could play along with countless songs that you've never known. Imagine a game that assumes you'll be familiar with everything in it, but you're not at all. That song for me is every guitar-based music game out there: Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Hero Rocker, (insert band name) Hero, Band of Guitar Brothers -- whatever that sh*t is called. It may be hard to wrap your head around the concept of not knowing the songs, but imagine that you're playing a game made of Chinese pop tunes. Would you have fun playing that?

One of these plastic guitar games, Rock Band 3, is now priced at $19.99, for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Amazon, Gamestop and Best Buy have the title available now at the dissociated price.  Have a f*ckin' blast with a bunch of old songs I've never heard at your little parties. Rock out hard, break a sweat. Show off that you can beat every song on Super Hard Perfect Extreme or whatever. Sing the song real guuud in your plastic mic. Tell yourself that drumming in this game is a useful skill. I'll be over here pretending like I know what you're talking about when you reference old movies, list off actor names and talk about comedians or politics or whatever.

Fu*k! Where are all the cool people at these days?

video details and more

Can't see the video? Click here

GOG is partnering with UK publisher Funbox Media to bring its classic games to the digital distribution service, starting with Realms of the Haunting and Guilty Gear XX #Reload. Of course the latter is the PC version of #Reload, which is just the PS2 game with an extra movie in the gallery mode.

Realms of the Haunting is a cult classic that mixed first-person shooter and point & click adventure mechanics with FMV cutscenes. If you missed this back in 1997, here's your chance to catch up.

While only Realms of the Haunting is available right now for $5.99, Guilty Gear XX #Reload will be released a bit later for $5.99 as well.

[Also thanks BomberJacket for pointing us to the Realms of the Haunting bit]
