Proving yet again that Nintendo likes to do things a little differently, the company has confirmed its software pricing for Wii will be comparable to current-gen game titles.
The news was reported to GamesIndustry.biz following a statement by Electronic Arts that suggested Nintendo?s own titles would sell for about $49.99. This is $10 bucks cheaper than Xbox 360 titles.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has been quoted in the past saying he didn?t think first-party titles would retail for more than $50 and this recent statement seems to firm it up.
If you think about it, $10 is a lot of money. For one 10 spot you can buy lunch or dinner at most fast-food restaurants with change to spare, a decent paperback, a partial tank of gas, a movie ticket (in most markets) and so on. The pricing is brilliant on Nintendo?s part and is in line with what seems to be its overall stance for the Wii.
As the next-gen battle begins to wage, Nintendo has taken a different tact than Sony or Microsoft. Rather than battling it out for the biggest, baddest console on the block award, Nintendo has chosen to do things differently. Preferring to appeal to those on a budget who want a quality system without all the bells and whistles, Nintendo might just prove to be the tortoise that wins the race.
I still think the name?s funny, but I like the way Nintendo does business.

NEWS - Pepcom sends word today that they will be holding their annual eFocus event before E3 next year. The show was a nice collection of companies that weren't going to be at E3 but wanted to meet with the press and only the press before the show. I finally got to go this year and it was actually a decent event and they actually did a good job of keeping non-media out. Hopefully the ESA learns something from them. For those of you keeping score at home, that's two companies that will be there next year (the other being Nintendo)
