Moldovan developer Magic Indie Softworks, known for its successful Robinson Crusoe games, continues its winning streak with fanciful hidden object adventure, The Fool. Drawing upon classic fairy tale themes, the game tells the story of a kingdom ravaged by a powerful dragon and demonstrates that sometimes brains are better than brawn when a kingdom is in peril. Offering beautiful art direction, unusual puzzles and a handful of interesting locations to explore, The Fool proves it's not just another fairy story retread.

Earlier today, we brought word that Anonymous was declaring war on Sony in retaliation for its ongoing "PS3 hacker" suits against George "Geohot" Hotz and Graf_Chokolo. The opening shots have allegedly been fired, it would seem, as the PlayStation Network suffers connection issues and Sony sites die across the 'net.
Sony has acknowledged the PSN outages, blaming them on "sporadic maintenance," but it is yet to address the issue of PlayStation.com and other Sony-related sites being down for the majority of the day.
Anonymous has been given speculative credit for the downtime, which seems likely given that this fits their modus operandi and all the sites went down at once. At least one Youtube user claiming to represent the group has named Anonymous as the cause.
This is all really interesting stuff, but if Anonymous can schedule its PSN attacks around my reviewing of SOCOM 4, that'd be fantastic, since I really need to get that done. Thanks, guys!

Here's one we missed from a while ago. This is Monkey Labour, a game which draws its style from the LCD games of yesteryear. The player is a robot working for an abusive monkey, trying to stop his boss from throwing things by setting him on fire. So it wins points for an entertaining premise, at least, and it's currently on sale for only a buck.
The issue I have with the trailer is that it asks me to, "remember the old days when games used to be fun." That wasn't this time, the time of the portable LCD game. Or, if it was, it wasn't because of that type of game. Game & Watch devices were pretty cool, but they weren't exactly ideal gaming experiences. Their value largely came from their portability, something we have no lack of today.
That's not to say Monkey Labour isn't good, though. It certainly looks like there's love for it and the app is rated well. Perhaps I'll pick it up and poke around a bit.

I wasn't anticipating Minitroid as much as some of you -- especially not as much as Jonathan -- but now I can see where the adoration is coming from, first-hand. A playable tech demonstration for the in-progress tiny Metroid fan game has been put online.
Tokinsom, Betatronic, and Jamie Billings are really on to something with this game. I fear that it could be a long, long time before we get to play any sort of full release, but at least this is one solid demo. Anything of such high quality has got to take a significant amount of time to pull off.
Go download the demo here. For those without access to Windows, you can see what's up with this latest trailer of Minitroid.
A demo of Minitroid is now available! [It's Dangerous to Go Alone via Tiny Cartridge]

Shield the Beat is a rhythm action game now available on Xbox Live Indie Games. Chased through space by enemy ships, you have only your shields to defend you from bullets raining down to the beat of the music (from the likes of Franz Ferdinand and DJ Champion). Each of the sticks on the 360 controller control a shield which blocks either blue or red shots.
The trailer makes it look pretty fun, so I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend on Saturday Morning Hangover. But it's pricey, running 400 MS points for 8 levels of play. That'll probably turn off a lot of people. A shame because I bet it's fun and it certainly looks better than most products in the same marketplace.

Visceral Games is following suit by auctioning some seriously cool Dead Space merchandise to help aid the American Red Cross' recovery efforts in Japan.
Much of this gear is coveted enough already, but then they went and autographed it all. Those of you with deeper pockets than I will want to give the full-size replica Plasma Cutter a good hard look. Similarly, the original script for Dead Space: Extraction is quite the catch.
[Thanks, Jonas]
