The Daily Hotness: Mega Man, did you lose weight

IGN revealed a trailer for the upcoming Mega Man Universe, featuring an extremely lanky Mega Man pew-pewing his way through levels composed of Mega Man 2 assets. Then 1UP and GameSpot dropped their own trailers, starring a more normal-proportioned Rockman and the US box art mistake Mega Man respectively. All exciting stuff. When can I give you my money, Capcom?

Today's recaps cover Wednesday as well as Thursday. The newest Bit Transmission episode is finally available, DtoidAustin had a killer NARP, and King Dedede is also made out of string.

Rock Band Avatar 'rocks' Xbox Live or something

Rock Band Avatar 'rocks' Xbox Live or something screenshot

I've spent a lot of MS Points on Rock Band songs, but very few on Avatar items. By "very few" I mean zero. So Harmonix and MTV Games introducing Rock Band Avatar items seems like some kind of ploy into tricking me to purchase them. Well, it's not going to work, damn it.

Here's what's available: a bunch of Rock Band Avatar item crap. Drums, guitars, a keyboard. There's even an MTV Awards "Moonman" statue. There's also outfits and stuff, too. If that's your thing.

I'll save my money for the slew of keyboard-supported downloadable content that's sure to hit following Rock Band 3's release. I have enough plastic instruments in real life; I don't need my digital persona walking around with one, too. Anyone feel differently?

Lost Wave Race Easter Egg makes game talk s**t

Lost Wave Race Easter Egg makes game talk s**t screenshot

video details and more

In what may be the greatest discovery in modern gaming, a deeply hidden Easter egg has been found within the GameCube version of Wave Race: Blue Storm. Yes, the game that was released in 2001.

The code (which you can find after the jump) changes the announcer's voice to a guy who basically talks s**t at you the whole time, along with changing the turbo sound to a little girl who says "meow, meow."

"Is that the best you could do?" the announcer asks before adding that you're a "waste of time," "pathetic," and "weak."

Tips & Tricks Codebook editor tells Wired that the code seems "pretty elaborate," using a different password entry system than the rest of the codes in the game. "Somebody must have want it buried deep." Thinking about going out and buying a used GameCube and a copy of the game just to input the code. Seriously.

Decade-Old Easter Egg Unearthed in GameCube Wave Race [Wired]

Via NeoGAF user "RaoulDuke":

  • Go to Options and Audio Settings.
  • There’s a waveform display at the bottom that changes if you press the Z Button—tap Z until the waveform looks like vertically rising fog.
  • On the D-Pad, press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, X, Z. You’ll hear an audio cue if you did it right.
  • Back out to the front end.
  • Start a race. Pick the first guy.
  • The pit crew voice will now be some dude who basically insults you the entire time. Also, the turbo becomes a little girl’s voice saying “meow meow”

Want to learn how to play defense in FIFA 11
Here's how

by: Charles Husemann
NEWS - The folks at EA Sports know that learning FIFA 11 can be a bit of a taunting task as the game is fairly complex and difficult to pick up which is why they've started releasing some fairly good videos on how to play the game.  This week we've got the tutorial on how to play defense in the game which shows the two ways to switch players, how to dump the ball down field, and how (and when) to perform a slide tackle.

Telltale's latest game is a poker game...WHA

by: Charles Husemann
NEWS - From the "I bet you didn't see that one coming" file comes word that Telltale Games next project is a poker game called Poker Night at the Inventory. That's right the company that's built it's business on point and click adventure games is coming out with a poker game.

What's unique about the game is that it features a unique cast of characters.  From their own (licensed) games Telltale is bringing Sam from the Sam and Max games and Strongbad from the Homestar Runner games.  Joining these two will be the Heavy from Team Fortress 2 and Tycho from Penny Arcade.  Like I said folks, you can't make this up.

The game is set to be released later this year on the Mac and PC for $4.99 and will be distributed via Steam (the game will be using some of the Steamworks infrastructure, presumably for achievements and online multiplayer).  I'm guessing we'll see more of the game this weekend as it might be on display at the show this weekend.

Conduit 2 delayed until 2011, getting new control
options

Conduit 2 delayed until 2011, getting new control options screenshot

Bad news for Wii owners and first-person shooter fans -- High Voltage's sequel Conduit 2 has been pushed out of this year and in to 2011. The game will now see release in the first quarter of next year.

The good news is that you'll now be able to play the game using a Classic Controller or a Classic Controller Pro; fans of dual analog shooters should be happy to hear about their inclusion as a control option. The original Conduit had High Voltage doing a pretty great job of re-defining how you use just a Wii Remote and Nunchuk to play a first-person shooter, but it wasn't for everyone. It was previously announced that the sequel would take advantage of the Wii MotionPlus for more accurate controls.

Conduit 2 should be on the floor at PAX this week; we'll send our ninjas to find out more about the delay, and we'll see if we can try the game out with the new Classic Controller scheme.

A look at Guitar Hero's crazy Warriors of Rock

A look at Guitar Hero's crazy Warriors of Rock screenshot

Totally new and totally metal is the new Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock character artwork and this nifty new trailer! Despite what some people say about the series, I think it looks interesting. Of course, I love heavy metal and think this sort of stuff is hilarious, but that's just me. The art assets are all one shots containing before and after shots of the transformations focused on in the new game. Besides that, also contained were images of the loading screens featuring each characters metamorphasis.

The idea here has to do with the characters transforming into all new, more powerful versions of their looks from previous games. Each character is shown off with all their complexities readily visible. There was the punk rocker girl becomes all angelic with some gigantic boots. This other face painted guy turns into boar warrior with an axe guitar. I liked that. Guy with a mohawk flips into this green spiked monster, I found that particularly prickly design fascinating.

My favorite one is the hat guy with those glasses because he has that cool looking goatee. Goatee's are the most menacing of all facial hair styles. He looks cool to me! I like that he has dreadlocks and is wearing a hat too, that looks pretty funny. Homeboy then for whatever reason became the headless horseman. He had green ectoplasm seeping out from his neck and this wonderful jack o'lantern guitar.

What do you guys think?

272-page Art of God of War III book incoming screenshot

Ballistic Publishing, the folks behind The Art of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, have announced its next PlayStation partnership, The Art of God of War III.

Set for release this October, the 272-page book will feature a "visual history tour" of the game, including 100 pieces of art that didn't appear in the game. The book will feature concept art, character studios, character modeling, and more, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at Sony Santa Monica's production process.

Ballistic is also offering exclusive character modeling walkthrough videos to anyone who purchases the book through its website. The videos will feature Santa Monica character artist Katon Callaway detailing how the Cerberus and Hephaestus characters were designed.

The Art of God of War III comes in two flavors -- paperback for $65, leather-bound for $129.99, and a "Limited Folio Edition" for $300. What does three bills get you? A leather-bound presentation case, a hand-signed an number Certificate of Authenticity, and a hand-carved cover ornament designed to look like the "Blade of Exile."
