Losing At Video Games Makes This Man Better
[Strategy]

Normally, throwing one's controller into one's pool is not recommended. But, if that action can be linked to success in non-gaming endeavors, maybe you should do it. It works for one successful person interviewed recently by The Oklahoman.

The newspaper was profiling Kevin Durant, guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder has chucked his controller many a times while playing games such as NBA 2K10.

Star player he may be on the real basketball court, but it seems that he stinks on the virtual one.

He's put his lack of gaming skills to good use.

He told the paper:

"People might not believe me, but when I go home (after practice) I play video games and I lose all the time," Durant said. "And I get so mad that I come back and I want to win everything. Something that small puts that winning mentality into my head."

That quote ran in the paper on Friday. That night, Durant scored 25 points against the Detroit Pistons, leading his team to victory. See? Controller-throwing pays off.

The King Of Fighters XII Gets Pricing Beatdown
From Japanese Retailer [Snk Playmore]

The bad news for SNK Playmore is that retailer response to The King of Fighters XII, at least at one major Japanese retailer, is that they'd like to be rid of it altogether, marking the fighting game down to $11.

The good news is that Bic Camera, the outlet responsible for dropping KOF XII to 980 yen—down from its launch price of 7,140 yen (about $79 USD)—appears to have sold out of the 2D fighting game. But with the game on store shelves a little over three months, an 86% mark down on the King of Fighters revival must be hard to swallow.

It's not that uncommon for Japanese retailers to issue steep price drops for older games—we saw plenty of new copies of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the same price in Tokyo this year—but SNK Playmore is probably not pleased.

The game didn't review that well here in North America, nor did it debut strongly on the Japanese game sales charts. Maybe SNK Playmore will have better luck with King of Fighters: Sky Stage. At least that game has the fan service friendly Mai Shiranui.

Golgoth working on Data East IP after Toki remake

Golgoth working on Data East IP after Toki remake screenshot

Any studio who can so brilliantly capture the essence of a retro game and bring it into the modern era -- without going overboard -- like Golgoth is doing with Toki is fine by me. In an interview with GameSetWatch, the developer explains what it was like to tackle such a project, which is a good read in and of itself.

More interesting to me, however, was the mention of Golgoth's next game. On the quest to find Toki's license holder, the studio was offered to take a look at some Data East IPs from a Japanese company called G-mode. Sure enough, the developer signed an agreement to produce another game.

All we know is that it's A) a co-op platformer and B) an "old" Data East license. My initial reaction was that it must be Joe & Mac, and upon finding out that G-mode does indeed own the license to that game, I'm willing to bet that's the next project for Golgoth.

Joe & Mac was pretty good, even if I enjoyed the sequel Lost in the Tropics considerably more. Just thinking about what some of the old sprites would look like after these guys get their hands on them has got me all hot and bothered.

Did Activision mention Band Hero is out today

by: Chad Smith
NEWS - As the fourth news item we've posted in the past week for Band Hero, this one is just a friendly reminder from Activision that the game is now available.  You'll be able to find it on the Wii, 360, PS3, and DS.  It seems to be the "Top 40" version of Guitar Hero 5.  Given that and the fact that the Wii will sport exclusive game modes, I would not at all be surprised if it sells the most units on that system.

Head to your favorite game retailer to pick up Band Hero as it's out today.  Also, you can click here to enter for a chance to meet Taylor Swift and see her in concert.  There are other prizes, but only Kanye West would care about those.
