Game of The Week: Zip Zap

Zip Zap is an awesome classic Defender style arcade game with a style and presentation all it own. Sweet sweet Zar Jaz!
Grade: 90% Retrotastic!
-Rag Doll Pirates: Fire cannon balls at attacking pirates. The music, SFX and presentation are high quality. The game is pretty fun.
Grade 80% Retrotastic
-Spectromancer: A very made crafted card battle game that looks like a PC game. The file is large, but the presentation is well worth the wait.
Grade 85% Retrotastic...[a lot more after the jump]

Add to myYahoo! The story of the Titanic is an infamous tale of tragedy, loss, and the unthinkable. In 1912 Titanic Mystery, the birth of the Titanic II 100 years after the sinking of the legendary leviathan brings promise of reconciliation by completing the vessel's original maiden voyage. However, not all is as it seems when threat of a bomb surfaces. It's up to you to stop it in this new hidden object game from Suricate Software.

Any studio who can so brilliantly capture the essence of a retro game and bring it into the modern era -- without going overboard -- like Golgoth is doing with Toki is fine by me. In an interview with GameSetWatch, the developer explains what it was like to tackle such a project, which is a good read in and of itself.
More interesting to me, however, was the mention of Golgoth's next game. On the quest to find Toki's license holder, the studio was offered to take a look at some Data East IPs from a Japanese company called G-mode. Sure enough, the developer signed an agreement to produce another game.
All we know is that it's A) a co-op platformer and B) an "old" Data East license. My initial reaction was that it must be Joe & Mac, and upon finding out that G-mode does indeed own the license to that game, I'm willing to bet that's the next project for Golgoth.
Joe & Mac was pretty good, even if I enjoyed the sequel Lost in the Tropics considerably more. Just thinking about what some of the old sprites would look like after these guys get their hands on them has got me all hot and bothered.

NEWS - As the fourth news item we've posted in the past week for Band Hero, this one is just a friendly reminder from Activision that the game is now available. You'll be able to find it on the Wii, 360, PS3, and DS. It seems to be the "Top 40" version of Guitar Hero 5. Given that and the fact that the Wii will sport exclusive game modes, I would not at all be surprised if it sells the most units on that system.
Head to your favorite game retailer to pick up Band Hero as it's out today. Also, you can click here to enter for a chance to meet Taylor Swift and see her in concert. There are other prizes, but only Kanye West would care about those.
