2008 was a good year for Konami — you could say it was solid. This year isn't so solid.
Later this week, Konami is expected to announce its earnings for the April-September 2009 period, and the company expects a 22.5 percent drop in revenues compared to the same period last year. The companies net income is expected to plummet to $24 million, an 81.6 percent drop.
Metal Gear Solid IV was released worldwide on June 12, 2008.
Even with the steep drop off, Konami does expect some sales growth during this fiscal year.

Add to myYahoo! While Marilyn Manson may have been the soundtrack for Dragon Age: Origin's early marketing, BioWare looked elsewhere when bringing the rock to the final game.
Electronic Arts has announced that 30 Seconds to Mars' title track from its upcoming album, This is War, makes its debut in-full in the game, which just released today. The band's new album is set to hit stores on December 8, so consider this a world premiere. Of course, Jim didn't know this when reviewing the game because he may or may not have ever heard of 30 Seconds to Mars.
You can have a listen to the song by watching the video above, which was co-produced by the band's front-man Jared Leto. Might I add that it's totally bad ass? The trailer, not the song. The song's okay. The imagery plus the song kind of makes me want to buy the game though, even if it doesn't feature any gameplay. Mission accomplished, I'd say.

Some may have been up in arms about arguably disturbing material and unarguably juvenile advertising in and for Modern Warfare 2, but it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of stifling anticipation for the game. In fact, GameStop told Game Hunters that Infinity Ward's baby is the most pre-ordered title in the company's history. Like ... ever. GameStop VP Tony Bartel told the site, "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."
So feel free to grouse all you want, but unless Activision replaces the FPS gameplay with first-person putting puppies into a wood chipper and renames it Osama bin Laden Pushes Jesus Christ Down a Flight of Stairs Made of Baby Skulls, we're not sure there's any amount of controversy that's going to slow Modern Warfare 2 down.
Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop's most pre-ordered game ever originally appeared on Joystiq on Tue, 03 Nov 2009 11:20:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Add to myYahoo! After seeing the above video, I'm now appalled that Wii Sukeban Shachou Rena only sold one-hundred copies. This looks to be the best thing ever created! Jim told us that this is officially the worst-selling Wii game ever, but that could quickly change with this video.
For some reason, the cat joins a human in playing a horrible song. This is like the music of the underworld with its warbling and shrieking and clanging. I love how kitty gets down, though, getting his shoulders into the playing. Then, suddenly, cat gets pissed, hisses at the human, lighting and thunder comes from the sky, and then he screams a terrible scream.
How is this the worst-selling Wii game of all time? This is the game I've dreamed of all my life! What kind of world is this?

Add to myYahoo! Ngmoco's first-person shooter Eliminate hit the iPhone and iPod Touch yesterday sporting a unique pricing system and some pretty slick multiplayer gaming.
Eliminate is a pretty straight forward online first-person shooter with average graphics. You play the game with twin virtual thumbsticks, using one to aim and the other to move.
We'll have a full review of the game in the coming week or so, but it's worth pointing out the game's take on pricing.
Eliminate is technically free-to-play, but to earn the money you need to upgrade your character and purchase new skins, armor and weapons, you have to earn credit. To earn credit you need to play matches using energy. While you get a free drip-feed of energy by downloading the game, if you want to excel you'll likely want to purchase energy packs from the in-app store.
I haven't worked out all of the details, for instance I believe that winning a match gives you some energy back, but I spent $1 last night to purchase enough energy to play a half dozen matches or so. Seems a bit pricey. Of course I don't need to buy energy, I could play and not worry about winning credits or I could just wait to get the free energy which is delivered over time to your account.
Like I said, very interesting.
Oh, anyone who gets the game and wants to play a bit, my username is Crecente.

Add to myYahoo! If you could rotate the world and change gravity, things like golf, juggling, balancing a spoon on your nose and standing upright after you've been laying down for three hours would be easy. Attracting Twist teases us with that concept by giving you control over the direction gravity flows, allowing you to move the game world and change where things "drop". Using this ability, your goal is to shoot your way to massive chain reactions as enemies slowly spawn near your ship.
