Penny Arcade Awards $10K College Scholarship
[Scholarship]

Video game design hopeful Kyla Gorman was awarded the 2009 Penny Arcade Scholarship, which she says she plans to use to pursue a degree in game design at the University of Southern California.

"I'll be forever thankful for the opportunity the PA Scholarship has given me to attend USC, one of the world's best game design curriculums," said Gorman. "I've already been able work on several trial games including a board game called Spacewolves that I designed with some friends. Look out gamer community, I'm coming up!"

While at Hamilton College, Gorman was a computer science major and creative writing minor. Her biggest interests seem to be in the intersection of story telling and game design.

The annual PA scholarship, established in 2006, is available to college students interested in pursuing a career in the game industry. The winner is selected based on service, leadership, character, financial need and the potential to make a positive impact on the game industry.

"We're grateful at how much the community has supported us over the years and being able to assist bright new talents like Kyla is one of the ways we try to give a little back," said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. "Kyla shows the kind of passion and excitement for creating games that ensures the rest of us will have innovative titles to play in the future."

Application information for the 2010 scholarship will be available in spring 2010.

Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop's most preordered
game ever

Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop's most preordered game ever screenshot

Modern Warfare 2. It is popular. Infinity Ward's terrorist-lovin' shooter is looking set to become one of the biggest videogames of all time, with GameStop declaring that it has more preorders than any other title in the retail chain's history.

"By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time," says GameStop's Tony Bartel. "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."

This is, without a doubt, the biggest game launch of the year, and it's no surprise that a number of games skulked off into 2010 to avoid its all-consuming path. Also, before you say it, yes we do know that we're writing a lot of Modern Warfare 2 stories lately -- it's the biggest game release of the year, dummy!

Pre-order LittleBigPlanet PSP for a tank costume

Ready to start collecting Sackboy costumes all over again? Pre-ordering LittleBigPlanet for PSP at GameStop seems to be a good way to get a headstart on building a respectable LittleBigCloset. The retailer is offering a series of six outfits based on popular PlayStation franchises, including two each from Uncharted 2, MotorStorm and Killzone 2. The costumes will be e-mailed with online orders or handed out on cards with in-store purchases.

One of the Killzone costumes is the tank revealed recently by LittleBigWorkshop. Hopefully, it'll be accessible for non-GameStop buyers, because we'd be heartbroken if every LBP player didn't get to run around in a lil' tank.

[Thanks, Kevin!]

Pre-order LittleBigPlanet PSP and dress up like a
tank

Pre-order LittleBigPlanet PSP and dress up like a tank screenshot

Here's another pre-order incentive for those keeping score, this time concerning the PSP debut of LittleBigPlanet. It would appear that LittleBigPlanet PSP will be just as obsessed with Sackboy clothes as its PS3 counterpart, offering as it will one of six free costumes to anybody reserving the game through GameStop.

The costumes are based on Uncharted 2, MotorStorm and Killzone 2. One of them clearly stands head and shoulders above the others, because it's a motherf*cking tank. You can also dress up like Drake, a Helghast, or Lucky Jack Flynn, whoever the Hell that guy is.

So yeah. Here are some things that you can get if you want.

More Zero-G Fun With Shattered Horizon [Clips]

Futuremark delivers even more zero gravity first-person shooting gameplay in this new clip from Shattered Horizon, due out for the PC tomorrow via Steam.

The last clip Futuremark released was nice, but it didn't show much of Shattered Horizon's actual combat. They certainly make up for that oversight in this clip, which is chock full of muzzle flashes and floating bodies.

Shattered Horizon can be preordered on Steam right now for $17.99, with a pre-loading available for those of you who wish to get right into the action once the game goes live.
