click to revenge-sizeIn Splinter Cell: Conviction, superspy Sam Fisher is seeking revenge for his daughter's murder. In the Splinter Cell: Conviction collector's edition, you'll find a varying degree of bonus items -- some cool, some silly -- that Ubisoft is seeking $79.99 for.
Due to arrive on the same day as the standard edition (February 23, 2010) the set will include a comic book prequel to the events in the game; an art book with illustrations from all the previous Splinter Cell titles; a DLC weapon and player skin; a credit-card-sized USB drive filled with art and a making-of featurette; and two stickers: one of the Third Echelon logo and another that looks like those fake bullet holes people slap on their cars to make it appear that they live in a warzone.
Ubisoft's sell-sheet for the CE thankfully displays the game disc and manual, lest you worry they're not included. They go inside the DVD steelcase, which we'd say might be good for deflecting bullets, but appears to already have been used for just that purpose.

Add to myYahoo!I'm no sports buff, but I enjoy a good soccer game. In fact, soccer and golf are the only sports games I'll ever play. Well, these and Baseball Simulator 1000 for the NES. That game was awesome.
FIFA 10 is probably the ultimate soccer game. It's looking that way so far. As you'll see in our Ten Minute Taste of EA's FIFA 10 (Xbox 360 version), there's a whole lot going on under the hood here. Ten minutes was barely enough time to skim the surface, but you'll be able to see menus upon menus of options and modes. This is one of those that you'll have to wait for the review for. It's coming soon, so look out for it.
Excuse my fumblings in the video. It isn't as difficult as I make it look. Selectable difficulty levels help out a bit. Soon after I finished this video I was playing like a pro. A losing pro, mind you, but a pro nonetheless.

A number of Xbox Live subscribers recently received invitations to a promising pilot program which grants them bonuses for a number of their usual online activities. Earlier today, Microsoft revealed exactly how the six-month trial program, which is appropriately titled "Xbox Live Rewards," operates. Basically, users can earn complimentary Microsoft Points by renewing their subscriptions, purchasing Marketplace content, taking part in surveys, or doing a number of other activities which are clearly laid out in this helpful chart.
Okay, so the number of points you can accumulate using the Rewards program isn't really enormous, and according to the invitation's fine print, you can't spend the points you earn until the first three months of the trial are up. Still, you get free Microbucks for doing stuff you'd probably be doing anyways, so it's hard to complain about that. Of course, we know in our hearts that someone out there will find a way.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Add to myYahoo!Activision is really stuck on this "Biggest Music Event of the Year" thing when it comes to Band Hero.
Not everyone would agree, with all of the other big music events that have happened this year. The passing of the King of Pop, The Beatles: Rock Band... Little Wayne working with Weezer. Big year for music, folks. But maybe, just maybe Activision is on to something.
Why? Because, like I said before, Styx "Mr. Roboto" is playable in Band Hero. Don't believe me, up there is the video proof. If you don't sing along, check your pulse. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go pick up my copy of Band Hero.

NEWS - Shigeru Miyamoto inadvertently caused a resurgence in ocarina popularity when he released the industry-changing Zelda game that featured the curious little instruments. It's been over a decade since the release of Ocarina of Time, but the clay flutes are still quite popular with cosplayers and average Zelda enthusiasts.
STL Ocarina recognized this popularity and now they offer a whole line of Zelda-themed ocarinas. I browsed their online selection and found that while you could venture into "expensive musical instrument" territory on par with brass and stringed instruments, STL also offers a number of highly affordable ocarinas. They also have song books that show you how to play many of the melodies, passages and pieces from several Zelda games. Needless to say, they're great gifts for a Zelda fan.
This is the best kind of intersection between gaming and real-world subjects, when a game gets someone interested in something like music that they'd never have explored otherwise. It's easy to self-teach with an Ocarina so it's a good place to start learning music, too. If you're gift shopping for a gamer in your life, give STL's website a look.
