New world record for Counterstrike kills in 12 hours
Can you beat 518 kills in 12 hours of Counterstrike? I tell ya right now, I doubt it. (Use that for motivation.) You'd have to get through Björn "Threat" Pers, first. See the rules in the press release--that will give you your practice routine.
A new record was set at DreamHack Stockholm on Monday 15th June for the"most kills in Counter-Strike (Valve, 2003) in 12 hours". The record is518 and was achieved by Björn "Threat" Pers (Sweden) at DreamHackSummer 2009, Jönköping, Sweden. This new record will be shortlisted forinclusion in the next Guinness World Records Gamer?s Edition to bepublished in Spring 2010. The Gamer?s Edition 2009 is already availableand can be found in all the good bookstores. In other news:
Gaz Deaves, Gaming Records Manager at Guinness World Records, said:
"Counter-Strikeis one of the most enduringly popular online games, and players likeBjörn are constantly striving to push themselves to new levels of skilland achievement. With such a strong pro gaming scene in Sweden, Iexpect to see plenty more Swedish record breakers in next year?sGuinness World Records Gamer?s Edition"
Christer Körnbäck, CEO at QPAD Pro Gaming Gear, Organizer of the record attempt said:
"Ihave organized 1on1 competitions since 2004 and Björn "threat" Pers isone of the most skilled aimers we have encountered. I think we have agreat record here that will be extremly hard to beat."
Björn "threat" Pers was thrilled with his achievement:
"Iwanted to make this record hard to break in the future so, although myfirst goal was 300 rounds, I finally went for 500 rounds in total. Bythe end of the attempt I was exhausted and my body was very tired. Itwas worth it, becoming a part of the Guinness World Records Gamer?sEdition is something every gamer dreams about."
If you think that you?ve got what it takes to beat Björn?s record? Then the rules are:
1. Have to be played on the same map: QPAD AIM map.
2. 12 hours.
3. First to ten wins the match and meet the next challenger (King of the hill)
4. The player with the most rounds during 12 hours has to beat a total of 518 kills.
5. Players are only allowed to change ingame settings.
6. Counter Terrorist skin have to be used on both sides. (So both sides have same visibility)
7. No "duck" bind on mouse wheel
8. No scripts allowed

While The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Ages was released by Namco Bandai in Japan last year, it's going to be all new to the US very soon thanks to XSEED, who announced today they'll be bringing the game here this holiday season with the help of Namco's Project Aces team.
Based on a series of novels from author Hiroshi Mori, the game is a flight sim that fully utilizes the Wii control scheme to fully immerse you into battle. If you've either seen the Mamoru Oshi film based on Mori's books or read any of the manga that was serialized in Monthly Comic Blade, you know the Sky Crawlers universe has a lot of story, too, and it looks like we'll also enjoy that in the game, which promised to tell it through animated cutscenes.
I have to admit, this looks awfully pretty, but since I've never enjoyed flights sims I may end up passing on it. Having been a fan of the film, though, I can't help but be curious about the new story the game will tell. Does anyone still really get into flight sims, though? I feel like it's been ages since I've heard a gamer say they were really into playing them...
XSEED Games Announces The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for Wii
Latest Flight Simulator From Project Aces Coming to North America
Torrance, Calif., (July 3, 2009) –XSEED Games today announced that they have secured the North American publishing rights to The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, an intense flight simulation game on Wii™. Originally released in Japan by NAMCO BANDAI Games, this latest title from Project Aces, will be available Holiday 2009 exclusively for Wii.
After decades of constant war and fighting, the world has finally come to a lasting peace. But with war being an integral part of their lives for so long, the citizens of the world are desperate for a solution to solve this newfound peaceful life of calm and tranquility.
To ease this tension and to appease its citizens, the government has started pursuing a new round of wars. These new campaigns are not a power struggle between hostile countries, but rather sponsored events between private corporations with military-trained personnel contracted by each side to do their biding for them. It is the battles fought by these war contracted corporations such as Rostock and Lautern and the constant media reports on them that satisfy and replace the basic human instinct to fight using the war as a show.
The latest rookie pilot to join the Sky Crawlers, codenamed “Lynx,” is working his way up the ranks and becomes involved in a secret new military project with the goal of making pilots immortal. Join Lynx on his journey to conquer the skies while unraveling the mystery behind the military’s covert new project.
”I’m extremely pleased to be able to confirm The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces for gamers in North America,” said Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “The innovative control scheme and gorgeous visuals just go to show what a top-notch development team can do when creating a new game from scratch specifically for Wii.”
In The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces, players hold the Nunchuk in the right hand as the flight control stick which is tilted to roll, pitch, and yaw, while the Wii Remote™ held in the left hand is titled up to accelerate and down to decelerate in its role as the throttle. The somber story of a world that needs war to survive, based on a novel series by Hiroshi Mori and adapted into an animated film released by Sony Pictures in the US, is told with a combination of animated cut-scenes and voiced in-game sequences during battle.
XSEED Games partnered with NAMCO BANDAI Games to secure the North American rights to publish and distribute The Sky Crawlers: Innocent Aces. The title is being developed by Project Aces , the forefront developer of flight simulation games behind the Ace Combat series, and garnered a Famitsu Gold Award upon release.

There's been a lot of hub bub about the "Demo Play" mode in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wii. This optional mode reportedly will allow the game to take over for the player, getting them through tough areas they'd been having trouble with.
This is an interesting approach to games, especially for casual players looking for "fun" rather than "frustration." Playing through an early preview of Twisted Pixel's upcoming Xbox LIVE Arcade game 'Splosion Man this week, we've seen another approach to getting players through those tough spots. One that ends in, of all things, a bit of humulation.
After I had been dying a lot, the game was called to action.
"You've died a lot," it told me. "You can now choose 'Way of the Coward' from the pause menu to skip to the next level."
Slightly ashamed, but ready to move on, I did. The results were... unexpected.
Upon firing up the next level, I noticed something... different about 'Splosion Man. Upon further inspection, I noticed what it was -- he was now wearing a pink tutu. Not only did I choose to swallow my pride and skip a level that I was having difficult with, but I now was being humuliated by being forced to wear... this:
I suppose that's what I get, and I'll take it like a man. But I'm probably going to think twice about choosing "Way of the Coward" the next time I'm sucking it up. I'm not quite sure 'Splosion Man's able to pull of that particular look.
'Splosion Man is set to hit Xbox LIVE Arcade this summer; check back next week for our hands-on and game play details. Sans tutu, of course.
