We already knew that Alice: Madness Returns features Alice as she explores her twisted memories to cope with her real life in fin de siècle London, and now the ESRB has shed some light on both combat elements and a possible London location.
For spoiler purposes, although there aren't really any heavy spoilers, check the description below.
This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of Alice Little, an asylum patient attempting to understand her past while struggling with an unbalanced psyche. As they traverse between the real world and Alice’s imagination (i.e., Wonderland), players use pepper grinders, knives, and other weapons to attack fantastical enemies (e.g., trolls, puppets, living teapots, doll-like creatures) in melee-style combat.
Battles are accompanied by cries of pain, slashing sounds, and large splashes of blood that stain Alice’s body and the ground. Some enemies can be decapitated, and certain attacks cause them to explode into pieces; in one sequence, young doll-like characters are depicted with bloody wounds that expose their brains.
During the course of the game, the dialogue contains occasional references to prostitution (e.g., 'I saw you down at the bloody whore house,' 'Where'd she be without me? On the streets selling her backside,' and 'Where’s me money?'/'Get those fat-a*s whores out on the street...'). The words 'f**k' and 'c*nt' can be heard in dialogue.
Siliconera notes that the references to prostitution could indicate a whorehouse, as one of the London locations you can search to unlock the repressed memories that haunt Alice. I'd note that this doesn't tell me anything at all. But puppets? Those will unlock my repressed memories of watching Child's Play and Puppetmaster as a child.

SEGA has released a new promotional video for Thor: God of Thunder, one of those behind-the-scenes jobbers where they interview developers. They discuss the approach that was taken towards making the battles of Thor appropriate for his godly status from enemy design to music. Additionally, Red Fly Studios is on hand to talk about how the Wii version isn't some mere port of its HD cousins.
The scale of the game is what I find appealing about it. Thinking of a (relatively) little blond guy pummeling the crap out of gigantic monsters makes me smile a bit. Here's hoping that the game winds up being as much fun as the fantasy I'm concocting.

A few days ago, we brought news that Japanese-exclusive Mega Drive title Monster World IV was heading onto PSN and XBLA. Considering that the previous entries in the Wonder Boy / Monster World series had been released on VC, it's safe to wonder why this one isn't also hitting the Wii.
It looks like the game will indeed make a Wii appearance, at least across the pond. The European PEGI board has rated the game for the VC, while the Australian OFLC rated for multiple platforms. Though the latter doesn't specifically indicate a Wii release, the fact that game is noted as being the original version suggests it won't be translated -- untouched imports are a hallmark of the VC.
So where's the ESRB love? I somehow doubt that the game will skip American Wiis altogether, but at least our international peeps won't be left in the cold.

The "Gamers Heart Japan" special we told you about last week has now gone live across the web. Pulled together by Electric Playground's Victor Lucas, it's an hour-long video special featuring interviews with game developers and journalists, all of whom have come together to raise awareness in support of relief efforts for Japan.
For more information, visit the official "Gamers Heart Japan" website, and help spread the word for this great cause.

Dtoid received and email from Aksys games with this image attached. The email said "more details coming soon?" and that's it.
I guess Aksys is asking us if more details are coming on what looks like a some sort of 3D outing for the critically acclaimed Bit.Trip series. Now, the Bit.Trip series officially ended with Bit.Trip FLUX, but that doesn't mean this might not be some sort port (like Bit.Trip RUNNER and Bit.Trip BEAT got on Steam), but with 3D enhancements.
Mike Roush, the art director at Gaijin Games (the creators of the Bit.Trip series), said a while back that they were shooting to have a 3DS game out at launch. The 3DS launch has come and gone now, but with any luck, we'll get to play whatever those crazy bastards are working on soon.

Game Informer interviewed Mike Kulas, co-founder and president of Volition, and ended up with enough material to turn it into a fascinating documentary on one of the industry's darling studios. It covers the studio's history, the stories behind its games from Descent and Freespace 2 to Saints Row and Red Faction, and some hilarious TV ads from a bygone era.
It's a great way to bridge the period between dinner and things like tonight's 15-minute Game of Thrones sneak peek, Mildred Pierce, or The Borgias -- which doesn't feature Ezio for some strange reason. Check it out!
