Gamezebo Rating: 90

Have you ever played a game, and within moments of booting it up for the first time, realized that you?ve just stumbled upon something that?s destined to become the next big thing? Rocket Slime 3 takes cute adventure to the high
seas

Rocket Slime 3 takes cute adventure to the high seas screenshot

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 might have one of the cutest trailers I have ever seen. The series, which features a slime from the Dragon Quest games as protagonist, is filled with adorable and has the Rocket Slime fighting off enemies and going on adventures. The trailer is in Japanese, but you don't need to understand the language to appreciate how cute this looks.

Dragon Quest is a great series (even if I think of DBZ every time I play it), and I enjoyed the last Rocket Slime game I played, but there has, as of yet, been no American or European release date announced. Rocket Slime 3 will be hitting Japanese stores November 2.

Dungeon Defenders celebrates sales milestone with
events

Dungeon Defenders celebrates sales milestone with events screenshot

Well would you look at this, Trendy Entertainment's recently released hybrid between RPG and tower defence Dungeon Defenders has now surpassed 250,000 sales. 200,000 of those sales came from the PC alone, with those other 50,000 split between Xbox LIVE Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

To celebrate this, Trendy are to begin holding a slew of community events for the -- currently -- 50,000 of you out there playing the console version. Don't worry, the developers haven't simply provided us with a long, boring list for you to read. No, they've given us awesome-looking wallpapers that have the events listed on the side. They're awesome, and you need to check them out.

Oh, and don't worry PC players, this is just "one of [Trendy's] many plans to support the game across all platforms" so they have something in store for you. They're just not telling us yet.

Valkyria Chronicles, Virtua Fighter modules in
Miku game

Valkyria Chronicles, Virtua Fighter modules in Miku game screenshot

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend is a Sega game, so I get how it's possible that Valkyria Chronicles and Virtua Fighter likenesses could be in the game. It feels kind of dirty to see this tie-in, but if you're a fellow Sega whore you won't be too bothered. Besides, they're cute.

Siliconera says that among the modules Sega has shown off recently are ones from Valkyria Chronicles and Virtua Fighter. Though I'll probably never play the game, I like the Kage-Maru one.

These join others from Phantasy Star 2 Portable: Infinity and Shining Hearts

For Project Diva fans, this is a nice bit to look forward to. To Valkyria Chronicles fans this is a painful reminder that we're not playing the third game.

HeroClix Online: Tiny heroes and villains will do
battle

HeroClix Online: Tiny heroes and villains will do battle screenshot

HeroClix Online is bringing the Marvel tabletop game to our wonderful digital realm. The focus is on action as players recreate classic Marvel battles or play out their own, "what ifs." Players of the tabletop game should be pleased to hear that the online version keeps the original game's features and if you could do something with the physical version you can recreate it in this one.

Despite being intrigued, I've never really gotten into tabletop gaming. But I do love me some superhero fights, so this might suit me rather well. As long as I can beat up Cyclops, I'll be a happy chap.

The game features:

  • 3-D virtual table top maps
  • Up to 64 players to a single tournament
  • Join public matches and tournaments or create your own
  • Locate challenging opponents to test your skills
  • Earn rewards for your feats
  • Test forces and combinations before battling human opponents
  • Will have global leaderboards and sportmanship reputation

Excelsior!

Ubisoft buys Trials HD developer RedLynx

Nice play, Ubisoft. They've snapped up Finland-based dev RedLynx, the makers of the fine game Trials HD. That game became one of the best-selling XBLA titles ever, mind you.

Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft, sounded pretty pleased about their latest acquisition: "We are delighted to welcome RedLynx to the Ubisoft family. Their expertise in asynchronous online games and physics-based game mechanics provides us with a great opportunity to bring their powerful brands, most notably Trials, to an even broader range of fast-growing digital platforms."

That means more Trials for us. Not a bad thing.

Of course, RedLynx also wins, as they'll be able to share their games with an even bigger audience.

This acquisition follows four others in in the past few of years. It started in 2008 with Massive Entertainment, continued in 2009 with Nadeo, as well as with Quazal and Owlient in the last year or so. Look at you, Ubisoft.

Need for Speed: The Run gets a multiplayer
trailer

Need for Speed: The Run gets a multiplayer trailer screenshot

Much like sports games, I prefer my racers to be as arcade-y as possible. Real life is boring enough already. Why try to simulate that when you can hit a dozen home runs in a row, pull off an end zone to end zone Hail Mary pass, or even play chicken with a tractor on a Nebraskan country road?

Naturally, I've always really dug the Need for Speed series. And with the franchise's most recent title is due out in a little under two weeks EA has dropped a trailer featuring the game's multiplayer -- which looks like a ridiculous good time. I only wish my cross-country trips were so eventful. Driving across Texas gets old fast. In any case, Need for Speed: The Run will be racing to stores on November 15th.
