Saints Row: The Third Officially Announced

THQ and Developer Volition, Inc have officially announced the third game in the Saints Row franchise with Saints Row: The Third coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 this holiday season.

Saints Row: The Third officially announced

Saints Row: The Third officially announced screenshot

THQ, by way of Game Informer, has officially announced the next major sequel in the Saints Row franchise, Saints Row: The Third. It's due to launch this holiday season, and it takes place in an entirely new city.

"Saints Row: The Third puts you on top of the world, right at the beginning of the game, with all the perks that go along with being the head of an elite criminal organization," said total f*cking THQ pimp Danny Bilson. "There’s no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm."

Man, all these years on and THQ is still taking potshots at Grand Theft Auto IV

Still, who can blame them? Saints Row is probably better than GTA and anybody who is not looking forward to this game is a sweaty, rancid dick!

Following Hamza's appearance on Inside Gaming yesterday, in which our good friend got his drink on, the Voltron-esque collaboration between Machinima and Destructoid continues with another recap of the 2011 Game Developers Conference.

In this installment, it's Battlefield 3, Magicka: Vietnam, and mini-burgers. Savory, miniaturized burgers. I can't wait for the sequel. Also, the mysterious girl who loves her some free food is mentioned, and then Nick shows up to talk about inFamous 2 like a boss.

Sony's Move.Me program: Move for research and
academics

Sony's Move.Me program: Move for research and academics screenshot

Microsoft's Kinect has inspired many schools and individuals to try out their own creative ideas with its full-body motion sensor tech. Sony wants everyone to realize that they also have a cool technology to play with, and now they've opened it up for academics, researchers, students, and hobbyists to experiment with in their new Move.Me program.

Move.Me is a software application that utilizes Sony's PlayStation Move tech to let researchers and academic groups create new software of their own. Just announced at GDC 2011, this lets those interested use the fancy tracking data that PS3 game devs use on their own PCs and other devices, no PS3 dev kit required. Sony says that the application is compatible with any Windows or Linux-based PC and that other devices, such as tablets and smartphones, can also receive PlayStation Move's tracking data if they can connect to a PS3 system.

The Move.Me application will be available for download from PlayStation Network this spring. Sony says that some researchers and professionals in the medical and academic fields have already expressed interest this program.

GDC 11: Minecraft iPhone port 'more of a
spin-off'

GDC 11: Minecraft iPhone port 'more of a spin-off' screenshot

We had heard that iPad and iPhone users would be getting a taste of Minecraft -- an official one, at that -- but hadn't gotten much else on the matter. "We’re doing like the iPad/iPhone Apple port of Minecraft, but another developer is doing it," Mojang's Markus Persson explained to PC Gamer.

"We’ve barely started. We know we’re going to do it and vaguely how we could do it. One of our focuses is we just don’t port the game over and say 'Hey this is Minecraft,' but to make something that makes sense for that platform. There are a bunch of different ways to do that; the ability to look down on your levels or have a different version of the game that makes sense where you don’t have to avoid dangerously fast arrows. You won’t be able to play that on the subway!"

"It’s more of a spin-off of Minecraft the more I think of it," Persson concluded. "That’s about as far as we’ve got. We’ve had a couple of companies approach us to show us how it could be done but we haven’t written a single line of code yet."

If for absolutely no other reason, I'm anticipating seeing what kind of sales this version can bring in.
