Rumor: Sony considering music downloads for PSP

Rumor: Sony considering music downloads for PSP screenshot

According to “music industry sources” that have been whispering to CNET News, Sony is looking to offer music for the PlayStation Portable by way of the PlayStation Network. The sources tell CNET that no final deals have been made, and that talks are in the early stages.

This information supports information we heard along with our earlier rumor -- Sony’s plans to launch their new hardware, reportedly called the PSP Go!, an all digital-based handheld. Our own sources had told us of Sony’s intention to launch an iTunes-like service, both for music as well as movies and television, presumably to compete with successful products like the iPhone.

Sony already offers a broad range of films for both rental and purchase on its PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3. While it’s offered no content from major labels, Sony has also made available its own first-party game music for download.

If Sony were to launch a fully functional music store for the PSP, would this be something you’d be interested in? Or are digital music services like iTunes or what Amazon offers enough for you? Hell, do you even buy digital music at all?
