The UK is the land of Sony, apparently, as it is revealed the PS3 and PSP have passed 2 and 3 million sales, respectively. Of course, the recent release of Killzone 2 plays a big part in it, as Sony UK's managing director Ray Maguire says the title "certainly has helped drive hardware," but also says it's a game which really shows "the power of PlayStation 3" and "it's a reason" for gamers to get on board with the console. More interesting is Maguire's view of the PS3's future, however, as he says "because it has sold two million at a higher price, it suggests more longevity" because sales have "chipped away at the top end of the triangle."
On the PSP side, Maguire points to renewed interest in the platform, stating that "once we had the Slim 'n' Lite out there," it helped emphasize the "portability of the device" to consumers. He also says there's been a lot of third party interest "over the last nine months to a year" due to the evolution of the PSP to a "value-added proposition in terms of online content" which provides "a new business model for third parties" and that they've "woken up to that."
