Sonic classics make a comeback on the DS

by: Sean Colleli
NEWS - I sure am tired of all these young kids playing Sonic Unleashed and thinking that's Sonic. Nope, that's the fake stuff. Thankfully the real stuff is coming to the DS early next year, in the Sonic Classic Collection containing Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. That should teach those whippersnappers with their newfangled DSi's some history, but I wonder if Sega will change the games in any way?

Will Sonic 1 save between levels instead of forcing you to play the whole thing in one shot? Will they put the spin dash in the first one? Will there still be connectivity between Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and if so, how will it work? I don't think plugging two cartridges together into an awkward tower will work on the DS. It'd also be nice to get a few of the Game Gear titles as secret unlockables.

For now details are slim, but I'm hoping this collection is more authentic than the disappointing Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis we got on the GBA a few years back. In any case I'm glad Sega still appreciates their mascot's roots.
