Silent Hill Shatters Memories this fall

by: Sean Colleli
NEWS - The Silent Hill series has been running out of steam (read--scary) in recent years, so Konami is rebooting it on the Wii, PS2 and PSP.  Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a remake of the very first game and still focuses on Harry Mason and his search for his daughter, but reworks the gameplay to really push the psychological aspects.  Supposedly the game creates a psych profile for the player based on the actions he or she takes and adapts the gameplay accordingly.  I love this idea because previous survival horror games like Resident Evil 4 did something similar but not nearly as deep.  I'm particularly interested in the Wii version, because we'll finally get to use the Wii remote as a flashlight in a dark room.

It's about time the Silent Hill series was brought back to its former glory.  It's also one of several games this year that are pushing the Wii library beyond lame minigames, and I applaud Konami for finally applying the Wii remote to survival horror.  If Shattered Memories does well, maybe another survival horror game will get its dues: Winter.  The in-limbo n-Space project takes a lot of inspiration from Silent Hill and has some spectacular ideas on how to use the Wii creatively, so maybe now it will get the publishing deal it deserves.Comment
