No April Fool: Silent Hill Wii, titled Shattered

Well, I hope it's not an April Fool's Joke. There's a Nintendo Power cover to win you doubters over.

This Silent Hill game is not a remake or a port, but a re-imaging of the first game. Uh-oh. Maybe it's not so bad, though. GoNintendo has some quotes from the magazine, and from what we see here, things sound pretty interesting.

The characters play different roles, things don’t necessarily happen in the same order, and the story is taken in lots of new directions. You still play as Harry Mason, you’re still looking for your daughter, and you’ll see familiar elements, but they’re all twisted to betray your expectations.

The text goes on to say that you determine how the game unfolds with your actions. “In Silent Hill games, the town always gets inside the protagonist’s head,” says producer Tomm Hulett. “But now, it’s getting inside YOUR head.”

And it's a Wii game, so expect some Wii Remote action. It seems that the in-game puzzles will use some waggle, so you're "not just hitting buttons to choose things.”

Finally, for those who hate the locked doors in the Silent Hill games, it seems that they're done with that in this new game: “Longtime fans of the series will also be delighted to learn that there’s a way through every locked door; no more checking dozens of entrances only to find that 90% of them are permanently barred shut.”

I'm intrigued. And worried. One thing's for sure: it sure can't look worse than the original Silent Hill on PS1, can it?
